The theme of "Animal Farm" is implied. Throughout my reading, and from what I have read about the book, it is safe to know that the book moves on a parallel with the Russian revolution, and the events afterwards. With that said, the theme is power. Power is constantly shifting throughout the story in some form. In the beginning we are met with the power of Mr. Jones and Old Major. Later on, the power shifts from Mr. Jones and Old Major to all of the animals. The entire story revolves around this pattern of the importance of power. Power, in Animal Farm, allows one group of animals control the others, and manipulate the rules. As well, no matter where you are in the story, power is playing some role or influence on a main…

One of the greatest allegories written in British literature is Animal Farm by George Orwell. The events that happen in the story coincide thoroughly with the events that happened in the Russian Revolution in 1917. Along with tying in the events, Orwell lines up the characters in the story with the real life people or objects used in the Russian Revolution. Squealer the porker is one of the main characters in the story and represents the old time Soviet newspaper, The Pravda. He plays one of the most important roles as the spokesperson for Napoleon and the mediator for the other animals.…

Fear is used by people in power to control and oppress others. Governments threaten punishment such as jail or even death to keep their subjects in line. The practice has been used for centuries, and is still used today. It can be found represented in art from the past, including George Orwell's novel Animal Farm. In Animal Farm, Napoleon and Squealer use fear to control and oppress the other animals by threatening Farmer Jones' return, executing disloyal animals, and using their guard dogs.…

The vibrant imagery used throughout the story helps to change the despondent mood into an exiting and hopeful one. The change is mood can be noticed soon after Farquhar’s noose snaps and he is thrown down into the creek. As he hastily tries to swim away, the Union soldiers fire a cannon near his position. When the cannonball is shot out of the cannon, “…he heard the deflected shot humming through the air ahead, and in an instant it was cracking and smashing the branches in the forest beyond” (Bierce 472). The purpose of the cannon and the cannonball is meant to add onto the urgency of his situation. After a time of struggling to survive multiple volleys of projectiles flung by the rifles and cannons of Union soldiers, Farquhar escapes the soldiers…

Animal Farm is set on an English farm named Manor Farm, owned by Mr. Jones. The fable-like story concerns the rebellion of the farm animals, and is told entirely from their point of view. The story opens with Mr. Jones stumbling into bed, unable to lock up the farm properly after a night of excessive whisky drinking. Old Major, the venerable and well-respected pig, has called all the animals together for a meeting to take place after Mr. Jones has gone to bed, and they gather outside the big barn on the farm. Old Major tells them all that he had a miraculous dream last night, in which he saw his approaching death, and also understood more clearly the life of animals. He wants to impart his realizations to the rest of the animals while he still can, as well as rouse them to take the action that he has come to feel is necessary.…
