Males lions have thick fur surrounding their head called a mane. It provides protection for their neck when they fight enemies or challengers. Lion jaws are very strong and powerful so they can kill large prey, such as giraffes. Claws on lions are also very strong as well as retractable, meaning they take them out only when they need them.
Crocodiles are reptiles with very sharp teeth. Their bite is the strongest of any animal in the entire world. Their huge jaws allow them
to crush their prey and swallow it whole. They aren’t physically able to chew it like other animals. The appearance of a crocodile camouflages it so it blends into its surroundings and can ambush its prey.
Bird beaks help birds pick up and carry food as well as tear, rip or crush it. Birds can even use their beak for climbing, as a parrot does. Birds build nests using their beak. They also preen (or groom) themselves with it. Different types of birds have different types of beaks, depending on what they need it for.
Brown bears have four very big paws, each with five toes and long claws. The two front paws have toes with longer claws for digging and ripping open things like logs, to reach bugs for food. The two back paws are bigger than the front so the bear can stand on them to reach higher food or to see more.
