Animal Testing Argument Essay

The truth is out as we finally get a peek behind the curtain that veils our society. In our world are people who believe they are gods, dictating who or what gets to live or die. Humanity no longer values the planet that sustains us or the organisms that coexist with us. Instead, we poke, prod, and experiment on animals to further our technologies. Often times it comes down to the worth of one creature over another. Our actions are justified by the simple concept of “who you would rather choose to die, a rat or a human?” According to Scholz et al. (2013) testing chemicals on vertebrates is essential to determine environmental hazards and to assess the risks. However, these tests are often considered inappropriate and raise ethical and financial concerns. Animal testing is not only unethical, but it is also unnecessary, unreliable and a waste of money.

As a result, the reaction of a drug in the body of an animal may be significantly different than the reaction of the same substance in a human (Davies, Morris, 1993). Due to this, animal testing is believed to be extremely unreliable. The uncertainty is followed by the belief that the animals do not perform as they normally would since they are put into an environment that is tremendously different from their naturally habitats. This added stress on the creatures would hinder their reactions to the substance under testing.

Therefore, animal testing does more harm than good. The planet suffers as animals are drawn closer to extinction, money is wasted over ineffective drugs that may permanently damage the animal it is being tested on, and the variability between human and animal may not provide the answers needed to benefit
