Two writer that have stood the test of time through their work are vastly different and yet the same. John smith was an English explorer that lived from 1580 to 1631. He was a brave soldier that took charge and conquered unknown lands. He “defeated and beheaded a succession of three Turkish officers in single combat” (Smith 58). There were works that were meant to be seen by many people and some, like the earlier works of Anne Bradstreet, were meant for family and friends only. The Puritan works that were meant to be seen only by a few seem to have a more honest feel to them. Even though some were meant to be seen and others weren’t, both type of literary works had unintended audiences like their community or students living today. The Explorer and Puritan literature were interestingly different even with both being around the same time. The writers lived different kind of lives and showed that in their writing. The styles of writing and the intent of the works all had unique ways of showing the distinct aspects of each literary type. Both might have been different in many ways, but both also managed to make their way to the unintended audience that is the 21st
