Anne Bradstreet-in “The Burning of Our House,” Anne was the narrator of this poem in which she expressed how she felt when her home caught fire. The Entire poem was based on Anne’s emotional state during her time of despair and how her faith helped her through. As I read through the poem I noticed that she spoke of her religious beliefs and her relationship with God throughout the poem. “And to my God my heart did cry,” (8). In order to understand and relate to this poem the reader must have some form of religious belief. Then she then realized those worldly possessions did not belong to her. Those prized items were provided to her by God therefore they belonged to him. “It was his own, it was not mine,” (17) this lets you know that her helped her understand that the material items she held so dearly indeed did not belong to her; But to God. The real moral of this poem is that Anne wanted to advise her readers not place worldly items above God, And to still have faith in him even during the toughest times in your life.
During the duration of Anne’s poem she explained how bad the fire was “Nor at the table eats a bit,” (30). This section of the poem tells the readers that everything, even the eating table was destroyed during the fire. When she spoke on how the entire house was destroyed this section placed and imagine in my head of a home in burnt rumbles. In the beginning of Anne’s poem she related the fire to thunder. “I wakened was with thund’ring noise,” (3) the sound of thunder is loud and startling. When she relates the fire to thunder you can imagine how scared she was because most people know that thunder is loud and scary. Automatically an imagine immediately popped in my head of this roaring flame rushing through her home. This poem was very powerful and made me actually stop and think what is important in my life material possession or my faith in
