Anne Frank Maturing While In The Annex

Anne shows that she is maturing while in the annex by taking responsibility, talking with Peter, and trying to lighten things up while there. She was pretty childish at the beginning of the play, but slowly grew up over her two years in the annex. One thing that really showed how she was maturing was that she admitted when she was wrong, and agreed that some things she did were immature and childish. For example, whenever she had a nightmare and her dad came to console her, he informed her that Mrs. Frank was crying because she felt like Anne didn't love her. Anne realized how that was her fault, and that she needed to eventually apologize. That's a very hard thing to do, and it probably wasn't something she was good at a few years before. Another way she showed that she was maturing was by going out with Peter. She actually talked to him, and tried to have intellectual conversations with him. Anne wasn't constantly bothering him or trying to rile him up anymore, but instead trying to have a normal conversation. At the beginning of the play, she had taken his shoes and danced around, which annoyed him, but by the end she was very kind and had understood that she needed to relax and calm down. She no longer acted like a little kid.
This supported the idea that Anne matured because when people are sad or down, most people would not know how to take care of it. Anne did some problem-solving to realize what she needed to do, and tried to make things better. One example of this was when everyone was celebrating Hannukah, and they weren't exactly excited because there were no gifts, but Anne had prepared some from things she found around the house to make everyone feel better, and make it feel more homey.
