Anne Frank Play/Movie Comapare and Contrast
This journey that Anne Frank encountered, although a short journey had a big affect on her life. A few steps down the road from where she lived had changed her life forever, more than she could have ever imagined. Anne Frank was forced to leave her life behind, in a time of World War 2. This paper will show the comparisons and differences between her life during this time as shown in the play and the movie.
In the play and the movie there are many more similarities than differences. In my opinion, I feel that the movie followed the play. This is shown in many ways. For example, the Anne Frank movie used direct quotes from the Anne Frank play and for the most part followed the script. In addition, the relationship between Anne and Peter is very similar. In the beginning they hated having each others company and Anne had wished she could have stayed with any other person but him, but as time progressed they grew closer and started, very slowly falling in love. The movie includes all the romantic love scenes and the quarrelling arguments between Anne Frank and Peter Van Daan.
Like everything, there were also many differences in the play. For instance, the thief scene was very different. In the play, the thief came during Hanukah and heard the families up above by Peter’s terrible mistake of dropping the lamp. Then after, the thief fled leaving the door gaping wide open. In the movie, this scene occurs quite differently. In the movie, the thief was able to hear the families by Mouschi, the cat. The cat, hungry, was licking the plate and dropped the plate into the sink. It was then that the thief heard them and left. Also the movie elaborates on Peter and Anne’s love story. There is one scene that was not included in the play version of the Diary of Anne Frank. The scene consists of Anne painting a hat while Peter is watching that is not included in the play.
