There are various ways people respond to conflict, however many people do not realize that keeping a positive attitude will go a long way towards solving problems. In many stories we see how achieving small victories can also lead to a better response to conflict, and at the same time make for a healthier and happier person which is really the greatest result. Anne Frank’s “Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl”, Joanee Oppenheim's “Dear Miss Breed” along with Mayo Clinic show how it is possible to sustain a positive attitude even while facing conflict and hardship. Understanding the type of situation is at hand, then intentionally responding positively is one possible way to deal with conflict as illustrated by an excerpt from “Dear Miss Breed”. While at the Japanese internment camp Poston during World World II, XXX shared, “The first day here was so hot I should not know how I should express how I felt then. Whoever I met carried wet towels on their heads. Even in the mess hall people ate with towels on their heads”(Oppenheim). The Japanese Americans maintained a positive attitude and found a simple solution of keeping towels on their heads to overcome the oppressive heat.
