Hutchinson delayed initial proceedings by asking questions like “What have I said or done?” or “What law do they transgress?” to play off that they are accusing her of treason. (Hutchinson 59). Throughout the trial Governor Winthrop keeps presenting evidence against her and even though she tries defending herself she still gets proven guilty and banished from the Massachusetts colony forever. Hutchinson was foolish to try defending herself in this trial because her fate had already been decided before it even began, but she was also an inspiration for people who did not like how one interpretation of Christianity, Puritanism, was allowed in the colony. Washington tried to establish diplomatic relations with Native Americans by promising that he would send gifts to them and would provide protection for their land, but when he was asked to stay and learn about the culture of the natives he said he had urgent business elsewhere and left the villages. The French had a much easier time establishing allies because they did the opposite of Washington’s actions. They had gifts for the chiefs with them, took the time to understand the Native Americans’ culture, and provided immediate protection from other tribes.
In conclusion, this period of American history was a time of learning and intolerance. There were revolutions and wars amongst world powers and Native Americans. There was unfair religion based trials like Anne Hutchinson’s. The French learned how to relate with the Native Americans which led to them having an early advantage in the Seven Years’ War; which the British had a hard time accomplishing after the war ended. These events helped lead up to a world changing event that resulted in the formation of a new country the United States of
