In Being Human season 1, Annie Sawyer is very different at the end of the season than she is when we first meet her. Costume, lighting/colour and composition are all technical conventions that have been used to shape and develop Annie’s character throughout the season. Annie’s costume during the episode changed with her state of mind, colours and lighting around Annie emphasizes her mood and composition of the shots that Annie was varied whenever there was a change in relationships between her character and another.

Annie’s costume is grey ugg boots, grey leggings, white top and a grey jumper. Annie’s costume is the clothes that she died in but also represents the stereotypical colours of a ghost costume. Annie’s costume shows barely any skin, subtly making the costume look as close to a white sheet as possible without making it obvious. The only part of her costume that changes throughout the season is how many layers of clothing she has on. Each layer looks different and changes with her state of mind at the time. In S01E01, Annie stays in the clothes she died in for the whole episode. Her jumper drapes over her and ‘floats’ when she walks (like a white sheet). During S01E02 however, Annie and Tully are in the kitchen and Annie is no longer wearing a jumper, revealing a long sleeved shirt with holes by the shoulders. This could show that she feels comfortable around Tully and showing off more skin may show her vulnerability. In the first three episodes,
