Mayo Clinic (2011). Personal health record: A tool for managing your health. Retrieved from http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/personal-health-record/MY00665 This source talks about how electronic health records makes it easy to gather and manage medical information in a secure location (Mayo Clinic, 2001, pg. 1). They explain what a health record is and what goes into it. The advantages and disadvantages to this system are discussed as well as if your information will be kept private. They tell you where you should start if your interested in using a personal health record system and they explain how the Mayo Clinic has a Health Manager that will give you reminders and recommendation about you health issues such as, “getting a pneumococcal immunization and annual influenza immunization if you have asthma.”(2001)
I believe the Mayo Clinic site was a useful source. Frist off there information is reliable. They have no enrollment fees, clearly stated section that lists all contact information and their mission statement is very clear in stating that it is a non-for profit company for medical care, research and education for all people (Mayo clinic, 2011). The president John H. Noseworthy, MD also gives a statement why this site is here and what sets it apart from everyone else.
I think that this would be a good source to use for a research paper for many reasons. This information seems to be accurate, helpful, can be obtained quickly and is very user friendly. It has made me think more about the benefits of having a person health record system I never realized that this kind of system was available for personal use.
