Perrotta, Tom. "The Guardian." Brat Pack Blues (2008) Web. 23 Feb. 2014.
In this article, the reader finds that Perrotta is a very opinionated writer. He doesn’t like Holden, in Catcher in the Rye, because he is not a real-life character, at least the characters in The Breakfast Club were real to him. Tom Perrotta does not like the ending to the movie and after watching it again he feels that other movies are better in representing teenagers, such as Fast Times at Ridgemont High, American Graffiti or Superbad. What probably bothered the author the most about this movie was the ending. He feels that when the Basket Case changed in the ending of the movie it changed his outlook on the entire film because
in the end we thought that she was going to be the character that wasn’t going to change for anyone, but she did and that is what ruined the film with the sudden Hollywood Ending.
The source had an one sided look when criticising The Breakfast Club all though it did mention why the movie did receive some positive feedback. Trying to think from the authors perspective was difficult because he jumped around a lot discussing the different controversies of the plot line, such as should it be considered an all time classic? Also he simply stated why he did not like Catcher in the Rye and then moved on to explain why he hated The Breakfast Club so much. This article would probably be hard for people, who loved The Breakfast Club, to read; due to the opinionated manner.
“Brat Pack Blues” really was not enjoyable for me to read in any way because being a fellow teenager, I feel like The Breakfast Club was a great depiction of what teenage life is. In my opinion Tom Perrotta might be a little old to be voicing his ideas on the teenage life, when he was forty four when he wrote this article. But getting to see the negative side of the opinionated fans and Breakfast Club haters will be good material for a descriptive essay on The Breakfast Club and The Catcher in the Rye because the author does go into depth about the personality and traits of the characters in The Breakfast Club.
