Annotated Biblography on Pride and Prejudice

Austen, Jane. Pride and Prejudice. Bantam Books, New York, 1813-1981.
Pride and prejudice is romantic novel and was written during a time of war in Britain where Austen grew up. This book is very interesting and it might rise a lot of question in it’s readers mind. This book is also the book I‘m doing my research on and though it has little comparison to history but it reflects a lot of values. The book talks mostly about marriage and reflects social issues. This novel shows us that love can overwhelm us and love is also one of the most powerful human emotions.

This article gives an insight of Jane Austen novel Pride and Prejudice to include other work she did. It talks about the tone set in her work and how she worked to get her book published. This article not only talks about the publishing history of this book but it also discuss the success of the book.

This Article talks about morality and marriage in Pride and Prejudice money was one of the most connected themes and so was marriage. When this novel was written women did not work and so it was not unusual for a woman to be married to a man of fortune. However, this article talks about the moral values that the character Elizabeth had and her love for the other character Mr. Darcy was not solely based on his richness but on love.

In this article a change to gender-integration is argued. The article is about incorporating women in social work. The article also gives views on why gender should be included in schools curriculum. This is important because just like in Pride and Prejudice individuals still have the concept that women should not work or that women should only do house chores. This is still a major factor in today’s world as women are seen as the weaker class.

Austen’s writing took place during the 18th century, at that time Great Britain and France was at war and so was the United States, Pride and Prejudice took place on this background and this articles tells us exactly what was happening in the world during that century.

This articles gives an analyses of the book enabling readers to have a better understanding of the book. The characters are developed and have moral fiber. It gives a good range of techniques and consistency throughout the story. Austen uses her abilities to show economics on marriage, because it was hard to find a good man of wealth in 1813, women were pitted against each other as foes and competition. This is very helpful to my paper because it also help me to better understand the concept of Austen’s writing.

This analysis describes the sexual themes in Pride and Prejudice .There are images of the actors which place sexuality and passion on the story. It is obvious that the men falls for the women sexuality and it is important for the women to be submissive to the men. Cultural beliefs is a key role, this is a powerful story as it depicts gender, intimacy and the sense of equality would come from pleasures and self discovery. These traits are still present today in men and women.

This article tells us how people in higher class are viewed as being perfect even when they have faults, Mr. Darcy is seen as the man without flaw. In the beginning of the story Mr. Darcy was very arrogant but as the story continues this is contradicted as Mr. Darcy became welcoming to the Bennet’s family. At the End of the story he is seen to be the perfect husband by Elizabeth even though he pretended to reject her at first. D. J. Dooley claims that it is this “ inflamed” that blinds Elizabeth to Darcy’s interest. This leads to the conclusion that love is blind and we sometimes do things because of love, money or power
