So the concert I went to go see was right here on the Santa Fe campus in the Fine Arts Hall Theatre or building FA. So the performers for this concerts were all students from Santa Fe and there were two different music classes to perform there, it was the Santa Fe wind ensemble, and the Santa Fe hand-drummers were the performers at this concert. So the concert was broken in to two sections the first consisting of a group of hand-drummers playing all different types of drums and styles from African to Mediterranean, then the second half was the wind ensemble. The wind ensemble had lots of instruments there was marimbas, percussion, triangle, tubas, trombones, euphonium, French horns, trumpets, clarinets, bass clarinets, flutes, piccolo, oboe,…

The groups that performed included the Chamber Orchestra, Flute Ensemble, Brass Ensemble, Dr. Nathan Daughtrey and Jerod Oakes who played percussion, Nathan Barrick who played the piano, and Allyson Goff who was the mezzo-soprano. The conductors for the different pieces included Ms. Laura Stevens for Madrigals and Dr. Brian Meixner for the brass pieces. The principal performers included Dr. Nathan Daughtery and Jerod Oakes on the percussions, Allyson Goff singing mezzo- soprano, and Dr. Jack Turner on the cello. The instruments included the piano, percussion drums, violin, viola, cello, flute, trumpet, French horn, euphonium, and tuba. The only voice part included a mezzo-soprano. I believe that the purpose of this concert was to showcase the students who have been taking lessons or have been performing in a group all semester.…

Last month, on Friday, January, 30, 2015, at 7:30 in the evening my friends and I attended a concert, Wind Symphony, in downtown Toronto. It was at the Edward Johnson Building McMilan Theatre, 80 Queens Park. The concert was conducted by the University of Toronto band and the conductor was Tony Gomes. The two musicians that played my instrument were Brian Burell, and Caleb Michalski. The layout is that there were clarinets in the front to the left and the flutes were at the front to the right. There were a lot of clarinets and flutes! Whereas, in our Beginner band class, the location is opposite. Also, behind the clarinets were the trumpets. In comparison, the trumpets weren't as many as clarinets because the tone and volume are much stronger and effective with less people. Beside the trumpet players were the trombone players. To the far right in the back were the euphoniums/baritones and tuba. There were 2 euphonium players and 1 tuba player. Lastly, all along the back of the stage were the percussionists. There were many different kinds of percussion such as tenor drums, sticks, harp, piano, and many more. The compositions of many instruments made the concert very harmonic.…

Finally, the band began to practice their last piece of music. They pulled out December Dance arranged by Boysen. Dr. Miedem had the band start at measure 43. For this piece, the percussion section had to readjust a lot. But, the band did not sit still. Dr. Miedem worked with the french horns until the percussion was ready. Once they were ready, I could hear why it took the percussion section some time to get ready. They had some cool percussion. Between the sandpaper blocks, bongos, triangle, and many more percussion instruments, I was focused on the percussion section trying to guess the instruments because they sound so cool.…
