ARGUMENTATIVE ESSAY – CHEATING HELP STUDENTS LEARN BETTER

Plagiarism, or basically known as cheating have been applied widely among the students nowadays. Having a friend text message test answers, extracting the discussions from various websites to complete the assignments and buying essays online are all ways in which students cheat in the class. Some of them claimed that cheating help them learn better, but in any extents, I seriously disagree with that kind of statement based on a plenty of reasons.

Some experts of cheating argue that students will tend to have a good chance in scoring an ‘A’ for every subject taken and hence, passed the exam with flying colours, be in the dean’s list, and become popular. Well, hold on a second. Does the status stay on the first place forever? Absolutely, not guaranteed, and I refute that. They may be able to answer all the exam questions by cheating, but students will not learn what they missed after that. For example, a student can get the answer by texting friends for a topic that he or she did not study or focus before, but after the examination finished, the student will definitely not care about it anymore. He or she is more likely looking forward and focusing on the next paper rather than thinking about the past paper taken. Time will pass by, and when the final examination is just around the corner, the student will regret of what he or she did. The question is, will the students manage to cheat and score ‘A’s for the courses taken over again? Why would students take risks of cheating instead of being honest to the knowledge? Therefore, cheating does not help students learn better, but bitter.

Furthermore, cheating could bring a risk in which students may be caught guilty; not only for the one who copied the answers, but the one who give

The first reason that I believe that students are turning to academic dishonesty more now than ever before is one simple word, the Internet. With billions of useful pieces of information readily available on the Internet, students can cheat by simply finding their topic, copying and pasting it to a word document, and turning it in as their own work. It is so easy. Students feel that because there is so much information readily available on the Internet that no one could possibly know that they cheated or be able to prove it for that matter. However, there are glitches to their plans. Yes, they are right that there is a lot of information on the Internet and it would be almost impossible to prove that they did, but there are new cites that are being created such as www.Turnitin.com that will compare the paper that is turned in to all the websites on the web looking for exact matches. It is getting easier and easier for teachers to catch students cheating and not just by gut instinct but with actual proof.…

Cheating has became common in America as more students are cheating themselves out of their work. Cheating is being dishonest in order to gain an advantage in one's school work. For example, Your friend finished her essay before you could even start working on it. She leaves it with you for you to copy and turn it in. Falsifying numbers or data sets on a formal lab report is cheating. Copying a neighbors answers on an exam is cheating. Cheating and academic dishonesty are often the first things that students are warned about on syllabus day. Horror stories float around about peers who have been expelled from a university for plagiarizing their papers on line. In our societies today we always face the stress of being better. I believe academic cheating is a response to that stress. Ideally, the study environment should be designed according to the student’s individual capabilities and strengths. However, as Marilyn French (1985:387) once put it into words “Only extraordinary education is concerned with learning; most is concerned with achieving: and for young minds, these two are very nearly opposite.”.…
