Most people want recognition and fame; people now a days only help people in need just so they can make a Facebook status about it. However anonymous extraordaries aren’t the average person. They’ll stand in support for what they believe without getting recognition, and for them that is fine because all they want is to be heard. Natalie Warne is a perfect example of an anonymous extraordarist. In her Ted Talk she described how she found a cause that she believed in and literally put everything on the line just so she could succeed at getting Oprah’s attention, and as it turned out she did not want recognition for herself but instead for her cause Invisible Children. in the rain for days or simply just helping the homeless an anonymous extraordinary is someone who helps others and doesn’t desire recognition from others, is resilient, and selfless
While many people help out the less fortunate many do it for the wrong reasons and for that they cannot be considered anonymous extraordinary.
For sure we’ve all seen the videos of famous YouTubers helping out the less fortunate, and while it is great that they are helping them out there intentions aren’t so great. Most of those so called charity videos are made so that they go viral, and so other people witness that they did something honorable. As a result the video gets viewed by many and the creator of the video receives more money from that video. For those reason they cannot be considered an anonymous extraordinary because if they were truly outstanding they would not make the video to glamourize the marvelous deed they performed. For example, Natalie Warne could have made a video demonstrating her contribution to the Invisible Children, but instead she didn’t because she was mature enough to know that you don’t have need people approval in order to stand for what she believes in. As result of her contribution she appeared on the news; however, that was not her main goal. Appearing on T.V. was a byproduct of her actions; her main goal was to gain support for the Invisible Children. Ultimately not wanting others approval is a huge factor of being considered an anonymous
extraordinary.
Instead of seeking approval from others an anonymous extraordinary will do what he believes is right and won’t stop until they have successfully gotten there message across. For instance, Edward Snowden anonymously revealed that the NSA has been spying on citizens for years; knowing that he could possibly be imprisoned for what he was doing was not enough to stop him. When it was leaked that he was the whistleblower he had to flee the country. While some believe he is a criminal many others classify him as a hero. One thing we know for certain is that Snowden is resilient. At the time there were tons of obstacles in his way; however, he pushed forward and grasped in what he believe in and come out on top. Another person who is resilient is Natalie Warne. In her fight for the child abductions in Africa she faced though decisions that would have stopped any normal person; such being hospitalizes and standing in the cold rain. However she like Edward Snowden aren’t your average person; they are anonymous extraordaries. In essence if an anonymous extra sets out with a mission they will not stop until they have completed their mission.
An anonymous extraordinary will care more about others need then their own needs, and is willing to risk their life for their cause. For example, Martin Luther King Jr. put his life and the life of his family at risk as he selflessly paved the road for an equal world. As MLK increasingly grew more popular he become a big target for some people; unfortunately the people who hated him were horrible and somewhat powerful people. It got so bad that at one point a bomb was placed and set off in his house. By being the selfless leader he was MLK put his life and his family’s life at risk in order to pursue his dream. Many people would never risk the life of their family, but MLK believed so such in his cause that at many points through his campaign he put himself at great risk. Natalie Warne also risked her life in her efforts towards stopping the longest running war in Africa. At one point she was hospitalized but instead of quitting there she came back even stronger, and continued fighting for her cause. It is these types of selfless risks combined with their negligence of fame and honor that really define what it means to be an anonymous extraordinary.
Whether you are contributing to world peace, or helping the less fortunate the world benefits from the selflessness, resilience, and the selfless qualities that make up anonymous extraordaries. The fact that we are all capable of being one, but many of us chose to purse fame instead says a lot about modern day society. Not too long ago it was the complete opposite less people didn’t desire fame and more people helped out of kindness. It shouldn’t be that way the world needs more kind people; they need more people like Natalie Warne.
