Anthem Reflection Paper

The book Anthem in my opinion the first few chapters possessed its dull moments but then gradually got more and more interesting. In this reflection I will be telling you my experience with the book. First of all, my experience with the Anthem reading aloud project was very interesting. The person I was reading to was my mother and she was very confused at first however she eventually understood. All she cared about at first was to snuggle with me while I was reading. After the third chapter my partner was asking some very well thought questions. Her questions helped me understand the book more in depth.
Secondly, I found some very didactic words in the book. For example, I found the word serfdom which means the state of being a feudal laborer. Another word I found was ecstasy, an overwhelming feeling of happiness. Speaking about vocabulary words, these words that I found can be used in our daily lives. We could use these words to sound smart or to replace the simple overused words that everyone use.
The concepts of collectivism are very idiotic in my opinion and I am glad the world we live in doesn’t resemble collectivism the way the book inhabits. With this in mind, in the book it states, “We are nothing. Mankind is all. By the grace of our brothers are we allowed our lives. We exist through, by and for our brothers who are the state. Amen” (Rand, 21). This just shows why I disagree with the book's concept of collectivism. Another concept is the quality of life is very low. The average person lives around 40 years old.
