Moreover, the black character Anthony- one of the most stereotypical, discriminative characters- who carjacks along with Peter Waters Jean Cabot’s car because she grabs her husband’s arm as she spots them, who does not ride the bus because it is oppressive, who considers that country and hip-hop music is oppressive in its nature, is depicted as the “typical black guy” who reinforces the stereotypes alleged against him through his criminal actions. He also portrays a collectivist nature since he said before he stole Cabot’s car that he would never steal from black people because of the same fear they have for white people (like he owes them the satisfaction due to the oppression they both face). However, Anthony is one of the characters that undergo metamorphosis in the movie and a change in identity. Since he is unemployed and is accustomed on stealing cars and selling them, money is an important asset to him and he acquires it regardless the means to achieve that, yet at the end of the movie, he steals a white van that contained Asians to be sold into slavery (without knowing the Asians inside it), and sells it to Lucien, the chop shop owner who is totally void …show more content…
The Chinese man is shown as an organized crime member who illegally buys and sells Asian persons. He is shown getting run over by a car driven by Anthony and Peter Waters and then again in the hospital speaking to his wife. The Chinese woman is shown arguing with a Hispanic female detective “Maria” when their cars crashed and then later in the film she is shown running into the hospital searching for her husband. On both occasions the Chinese female is shown as rude and as using offensive racial comments toward other characters in the scenes without any basis for doing
