How Nebraska Came to Be

One warm afternoon, a farmer named Ralph was going to get all of his cattle into one place because their was a rare cow disease called Anthrax, which is caused by Bacillus anthracis.
Anthrax can be transmitted from animals to humans, and vis-versa. The cows were already infected with the disease, so the farmer wanted to make sure none of his visitors got the dreadful disease as well. “ I know it’s a matter of time until i die “ he said feeling depressed. He was barefoot, like he always was, and he stepped on something.
He sat down and looked at his foot. He thought it was a pebble, so he threw it into the soil and buried it like he would any other pebble that bit his foot. It then started to rain, so Ralph went

Ralph felt better about eating it now that it looked really delicious. Ralph’s wife handed the strange object to ralph and he took a bite. “ This is the best thing i’ve ever tasted. It beats your meat loaf for sure. Ha ha. “ Ralphs wife then took the object and took a bite. “ THis is better than my meat loaf. It’s better than any of my cooking. “ said ralph’s wife. “ You said it, not me. “ said Ralph. “ We need to make more of this. “ said Ralph. “ Let me cut this in half and plant one half in the ground and save the other half “ said ralph’s …show more content…
Then Ralph and his wife died, but the had kids, and the next generation came and found something better than corn. The boy’s name was Colton and the girl’s name was Melissa.
One day, Colton and Melissa were on a walk through their corn field when they stumbled upon a meadow and found a soft plant. “ What is this weird fuzzy plant? “ said Melissa. “ I don’t know “ said Colton. “ Should we take take it home? “ said Melissa. “ Sure “ said Colton. So Colton and Melissa walked home and planed the strange object and sure enough, it grew into something amazing.
The next morning, Melissa woke up and walked outside to see if the strange stuff grew into something new. It did and Melissa was super happy. She ran inside to wake up Colton and he was surprised. He ran outside and was picking the stuff out of the ground. He went inside and started grounding it all up in a grinding bowl and it turned into a dough. He then put it into the oven. He waited an hour until he smelled something amazing. He pulled it out of the oven and sat it down on the table. He tried to dig in, but he burned himself because the strange thing was too hot. He then waited an hour and then went back into the room and sat down at the table. He then took a bite and his eyes lit up. “ Come here Melissa! “ “ Try this.” said Colton. So Melissa took a bite. “ WOW! “ said

After a while on the island under Ralph’s rule, the boys get tired of working all day long and decide to join Jack’s tribe. Jack has a contrasting view of life on the island and his tribe just hunts and feasts. They do not even have shelters. Ralph and Piggy are the last to switch over to Jack’s tribe and when they do, all of the boys start chanting the hunting song they made up. “The beast struggled forward, broke the ring and fell over the steep edge of the rock to the sand by the water. At once the crowd surged after it, poured down the rock, leapt on to the beast, screamed, struck, bit, tore” (Goulding 213). After the boys killed Simon, Ralph realized what he did was wrong and he left Jack’s tribe. This shows that bad people can get good people to do evil things, but the person will always be good at heart.…

He presents stories that show the unfortunate situations or events that come with the fast food industry triggering an emotional response from his audience. In Chapter 9, Schlosser tells the story of a boy named Alex who was infected with E. Coli O157:H7 from a contaminated hamburger. The descriptive narration makes an impactful argument by showing how the current unsanitary conditions in slaughtering houses can affect one’s health. He colorfully illustrates the boys physical account showing how his reaction “ progressed to diarrhea that filled a hospital toilet with blood. …Toward the end, Alex suffered hallucinations and dementia, no longer recognizing his mother or father. Portions of his brain had been liquefied..." (Schlosser 200). By using the vivid details of the effect E. Coli had on this six-year old boy, fear is elicited from adult readers. Their children may be subjected to the harmful pathogen if they continually turn a blind eye from where their meat is obtained. To further emphasize his point of the spread of bacteria via meat and the need for change in the industry he states, “You 'd be better off eating a carrot stick that fell in you toilet than one that fell in your sink" (Schlosser 221). The bold, imaginative statement taps into the reader’s senses leaving them with a feeling of…

He sits down on the carpet and picks up one wood block from the plastic container. He stacks up a few blocks one by one very carefully. After stacking 7 blocks up high, he knocks them over with his hand with a little smile on his face. He looks around and stares at the boy who is playing with moving animals for a while. He moves across from that boy on his knees . His eyes follows the movement of the moving dog. When the dog stops moving, he looks at that boy and giggles softly. He lifts it up with two fingers, put it down on the floor to let go toward the boy across back. When it bumps his leg on the way back to him, he mumbles, "Ouch!" quietly. Busybody thought everything was alright until something horrible happened. It was February 27th, no sign of Johnny Dorset. Mrs. Busybody could finally lie down and relax without being disturbed. Everything was starting to seem so peaceful, relaxing, and calm. She was slowly drifting off to sleep. Then, she heard someone yelling as loud as an elephant. Mrs. Busybody sat up to see the worst surprise ever. The terrible and mean Johnny Dorset has come back. She got ran around the house faster than a cheetah. Awe Man! , “I thought I would never see him again”, she said. “Lord, why me? Is this punishment for popping Johnny’s little, red ball or breaking all his sticks so he wouldn’t be able to play that Indian game”, she thought. Whichever one it was please forgive me. All of sudden, a thought struck her head. “I can leave for a few days”. Mrs. Busybody quickly ran to my dresser and pulled out a week’s worth of clothes. What about my two cats’? , she thought. “I’ll just leave them here”. “My cats are missing limbs and ears and they’re beaten up. If they weren’t in such poor condition, I would gladly them with me”. But, Johnny decided he wanted to throw medium sized rocks at them. Poor cats, they haven’t been the same since then. She finished getting her items together. Mrs. Busybody walked outside to the old, raggedy, blue car in the drive way. She started driving and the car started making funny noises. The dusty, slow car broke down in front of a big cabin. This is better than nothing. “At least I’m away from Johnny”, she said with a stupid grin on her…
