Literary devices are used to help the reader connect and understand characters and to give those characters depth. Anthropomorphism is a literary device that is the attribution of human characteristics or behavior to a god, animal, or object. An example of anthropomorphism is Rudyard Kipling's "Rikki-tikki-tavi". Rikki-tikki-tavi is a mongoose that is the hero of the story because he saves Teddy and his family, who are people who have taken Rikki into their home. Rikki shows his heroic characteristics, which are also very human, when saving Teddy and his family from the cobras, who live in their garden. Rikki's heroic characteristics that are very human include courage, loyalty, and cleverness. Rikki-tikki-tavi shows courage throughout most of the story, which is a common characteristic in human heroes. Rikki shows courage when he decides to fight against the cobras because he knows that he could potentially lose his life to them. Rikki is very loyal to Teddy and his family because they let him live in their home. Rikki feels the need to protect this family with his life in order to repay them for their generosity. When Rikki overheard that Nag, one of the cobras, was going to try and kill his new family, Rikki immediately became determined to keep Teddy's family safe at all costs. He knew that he must eliminate all of the snakes, especially the two cobras, Nag and Nagaina, and their eggs, in order to keep his new family safe. These examples show Rikki's heroic quality of loyalty, which is also a human

Feeling sorry for someone, but not agreeing with them. As humans we have all felt this feeling at least once in our lifetime. In the book The Awakening, by “Kate Chopin” Kate Chopin sympathizes with the main character Edna but doesn’t pity her. I agree with Kate, because even though she’s married with Leonce a man that she doesn't love and has children with him, she is still free not attached to him at all. Another reason I agree with Kate is that she doesn’t pity Edna. She spends time and loves Robert rather than loving her own husband.…

Rikki Tikki is a brave character in this story. In one example, Rikki said to Nag, “Do you think it is right for you to eat fledglings out of a nest?”(para 25). Rikki Tikki stands up for his friend Darzee to let Nag know that he made a bad choice. Darzee now knows that Rikki is a good friend that will never let him down. For instance “Rikki-Tikki felt his eyes growing red and hot.” (para 31). This implies Rikki was furious at Nagaina because she dodged his bite and Rikki only got her tail. Rikki is brave when it comes to fighting an enemy, but his anger also comes out in a fight with a rival. Rikki Tikki is courageous and stands up for his friends.…

Paragraph 57 says, "'Now, if I kill him here, Nagaina will know; and if I fight him on the open floor, the odds are in his favor. What am I to do?' said Rikki-tikki-tavi." When Rikki-tikki attacked Karait he just attacked he didn't think about anything. That time he put himself at a bigger risk. This time he actually spent time to think. People on the Earth could sometimes misuse the word hero because for them, they think heroes are only the people with capes or people within the high society and make a massive impact on Earth but in reality anyone could be a hero to someone. The Dictionary states a hero is “someone admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities”. Rikki is a mongoose that defines what a hero is and there should be no argument. First, I think Rikki is a hero because Rikki followed Nagina into the hole. According to the text it states,”And very few mongooses however wise and old they may be, care to follow a cobra into its hole.” This shows Rikki is brave because Rikki doesn’t how many snakes might be in there because it’s really…

“Rikki Tikki Tavi” is a mongoose saved by a British family and is taken care of. Rikki developed a bond with the British family and attempted to keep them safe by any means necessary. This can be directed to loyalty of Indian tribes who accept that imperialism provides them with law and order and they want to respect those that impose the law to them. Rikki fights against two cobras: Nag and Nagaina, who are symbolic to Indians who do not approve of the british and want to reclaim their land. Because the cobras showed a nuisance to the British family, the loyal mongoose helped bring the family to…

Hypothetically, I am applying at local police after completing the police academy. One friend of mine from college actually work for the same department. However, she decided not to mention the fact that we were arrested for marijuana our freshman year, reason being is that the charges were dropped because the search the officers ducted was illegal. She also advised me that the department does not conduct polygraph as part of the hiring process. I now have the decision to either lie on the form or tell the truth about the incident. I know if that if I lie eventually I will be found out, but I believe that the long-ago arrest will never become known. If I don’t lie, I will be asked to explain the situation of the arrest and my friend will be implicated in the story.…
