In the article “Kevorkian Will Not Assist In Any Suicides” by Daniel Schorn focuses on a physician named Jack Kevorkian who assisted over 150 suicides. He was sent to jail for filming a public death“Back in 1998, Kevorkian gave 60 Minutes a tape he had made of Youk's final minutes, and we aired part of it on the broadcast.” He was charged for murder and when he was released he had a whole new state of mind. “CBS News had a interview with him and he stated that “ He says he cannot offer counsel to anybody or advise people how to commit suicide. And he cannot be present at a suicide or euthanasia.” Kevorkian believes now that physician-suicide death should be illegal. Washington v. Glucksberg is a famous court case that denies the physician-assisted suicide right. In the article “Washington v. Glucksberg 521 U.S. 702 (1997)” they argue that physician-assisted suicide is wrong. “Anglo-American common law has punished or otherwise disapproved of assisting suicide for over 700 years” they talk about this law that punished doctors for assisting suicide. “In the article Most Doctors In The United States Now Support ‘Death With Dignity’ Laws” by Tara Culp-Ressler doctors in America are agreeing with this law. Ressler observes on how many doctors agree “according to a large survey of more than 21,000 medical professionals — marking the first time that a majority of doctors has indicated support for physician-assisted suicide.” Ressler also implies that after Brittany Maynard died, they took dying with dignity into consideration “But the issue has perhaps recently gained momentum thanks to Brittany Maynard, the 29-year-old woman who sparked a national conversation about right-to-die policies after publicly announcing her decision to end her life this fall.” now doctors are coming around take make this law possible!
Some people believe that physician-assisted suicide is positive. They believe it good to have it as a backup plan incase they cannot deal with the pain and suffering. They believe it’s not murder it’s helping a patient end their life that’s already ending in a no-painful matter. Patients want the opportunity like Brittany Maynard had. They use dying with dignity in a good way, even though other people believe it’s murder. They are going to believe what they want to, but at the end it’s not just their decision, it’s like war you are going to battle for what you want and you may or may not get
