Subject: Anti-Foreign Sentiments
As you requested on March 17, this report outlines the results of my analysis of the effectiveness of the government measures on anti-foreign issue sentiments and the type of complaints received from Singaporeans.
Anti-foreigner sentiments are increasing among Singaporean as Singaporean’s feel threaten about their job security and their children’s future. One example to state will be the Ferrari accident, which caused by the china driver not only, caused him to lose his own life but also the lives of a taxi driver and his passenger, a Japanese woman. Also Singapore mass rapid transit china drivers strike in Singapore and causing a lot of Singaporean difficulties in getting to work on time. This incident caused Singaporean to blame the foreigners for the agony. Thus government implemented few measures to find solutions for the various problems.
Inflow of foreigners
The need for more foreigners and immigrants in Singapore increased in early 2000 to help Singapore arrest the problem of dwindling population as 7.72 births per 1,000 people, Singapore’s birthrate is the lowest worldwide according to 2011 CIA World factbook. Thus Singapore’s floodgates were opened wide and by 2011, Singapore’s population was 5.2 million and out of this, 40% was foreign-born permanent residents or temporary residents. Shown in figure 1.

Singapore laws states that it would make the marriage of convenience to obtain immigration privileges, including residency or long-term passes a criminal offense. Also subject permanent residents who get involved in activities "prejudicial to public order" to the loss of residency status or cancellation of entry permit. The Ministry of Home Affairs brought in this law to avoid having undesirable people.
