In this story, there are so many similes, however one that really stood out was the one quoted above. As I continue to go on with the story it amazes me how Sandra Cisneros, structures these sentences to make the readers more captivated. Reading this story once or just skimming through it, there would be no way to fully understand the deep meaning she is trying to reveal. For me, I personally had to reread the story a couple times to be able to catch all the similes and fully grasp the whole story about a not just a red sweater, but “an ugly red sweater with red plastic buttons.” With the simile that comes hand in hand with the rest of the story, she doesn’t only bring the story to life, but actually makes readers be able to comprehend what…

“Eleven” by Sandra Cisneros is a story about a girl and her insecurities of wearing an ugly sweater that she is accused of owning by her teacher. The overall purpose of this memoir is to share her experience with the readers so that they will be more aware and will not have to go through the traumatic experience like she did. When the teacher asks the class whose sweater it is, someone says it is hers. The teacher put the sweater on her desk and when she tried to get rid of it, the teacher made her wear it. She started crying and put her head down trying to hide herself. Near the end of class, another girl jumped up claiming the ugly sweater was hers. The worst part is that it is her birthday and she has to deal with all these negative emotions. The except says, “In my head I'm thinking how long till lunchtime, how long till I can take the red sweater and throw over the schoolyard fence, or leave it hanging on a parking meter, or bunch it up into a little ball and toss it in the alley”( Cisneros 2). This shows that she started to be more self-conscious about herself and is embarrassed to be seen in an ugly sweater.…
In “The Yellow Wallpaper,” the reader is presented with the many different emotions and perspectives of the narrator as she sees images of a woman in the wallpaper. The author, Charlotte Perkins Gilman, successfully makes this event interesting and significant. Some may see the lady behind the wallpaper as something the narrator sees because she is “crazy” or imagines for no other reason than boredom. However, only one thing must be true as various parts in the story allude and point to. The narrator is the woman trapped in the wallpaper, and the narrator reflects on her feelings of imprisonment within reality and her own mind.…
