It was a Wednesday – July 24, 2013, when FEATI University held a symposium to increase the awareness of the students about the negative effects of using plastics and Styrofoam. The speaker started his talk by showing a well-thought out video. Different phenomena and drastic consequences showed in the presentation prove the major effects of the predicament the world is facing nowadays – which is using materials made out of plastics such as bags, straws, cups and etc. It evinces that such activities are harmful to the environment. In my perspective, the symposium was able to effectively communicate the issues to the students that will significantly increase their awareness regarding the effects of frequent use of plastic materials. The increase of their awareness may result to a change in the behaviour of FEATI students towards the issue and may arouse the desire to initiate actions in order to help resolve the problem. The symposium was able to open the eyes of the audience that their actions are the causes of the recent flooding experienced by every Filipino. It was able to impart to them that they themselves are the main actors of this issue. Their improper use and disposal of plastic materials blocks the drainage along the road. That’s why when rain pours, the rainwater accumulates and causes floods. Also, it was shared that plastic would take hundreds – if not thousands – of years. That’s why we shouldn’t be carelessly disposing our trash in landfills. It’s only a matter of time before they’ll overflow and
