Amid, a student protest two students were assassinated, and wounded nine others. This scene horrified the nation and shocked the world. Subsequently, the protesters set fires to buildings and bombarded the policemen with stones, this infuriated the guards men to fire at the crowd. Likewise, colleges and universities shut down because the sight of more Americans getting killed spooked the nation. When this was exposed, 100,000 protesters gathered outside of the White House because the war was tearing the fabric of American society. Most of these events were caused because of the anti-war movements. These boosted the civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. went public with his opposition to the war on moral grounds, condemning “the war’s diversion of federal funds from domestic programs as well as the disproportionate number of African-American casualties in relation to the total number of soldiers killed in the war.” Vietnam's protests from the Civil Rights Movement during 1960s America.
