The results show that tea tree and eucalyptus have about the same antibacterial activity as the positive control (ampicillin) used in this experiment. Oregano and colloidal silver’s zone of inhibition were closer to h2O, which concludes that at the amount used for both there is no antibacterial…

It does not matter whether one is managing a florist, grocery store or a bank, one cannot manage the company without having some type of order. Order is needed to ensure that all aspects of the company is taking care of, providing order means that one has to take steps that combines into a process that takes care of the company needs. Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) is a process, a model that is needed in project management (Johnson, 2012). SDLC explains the steps involved in an information system development project, from the first step of researching and analyzing to all the way through to the final step of maintenance of the completed application…
Plants such as Glycyrrhiza glabra, Allium sativum, Aloe vera, Physalis angulata, Annona senegalensis, Dryopteris crassirhizoma, Quercus infectoria, Englerophytum magalismontanum, Euclea natalensis, Solanum panduriforme, Rosmarinus officinalis Linn., Baeckea frutescens, and Parinari curatellifolia were demonstrated to have antibacterial activity against S. mutans (Bachrach et al., 2011; Ban et al., 2012; Fani and Kohanteb, 2012; Hwang et al., 2004; More et al., 2008). In addition, substances such as linoleic, linolenic, oleanolic, betulinic acids, betulin, and beta-sitosterol glucoside, among others, were reported to suppress adherence of S. mutans in-vitro (Wu,…
According to McCormick (2013), the patient has the right of autonomy, nonmaleficence, beneficence, and justice. Patient autonomy allows the patient to “act intentionally, with understanding, and without controlling influences that would mitigate against a free and voluntary act” (McCormick, 2013). The patient was given autonomy through discussion with the midwife, neonatologist, and perinatologist assigned to her care and the patient was then allowed to decide the course of action to be taken. Nonmaleficence gives the patient the right to avoid intentional harm or injury. Prolonging induction of labor until the patient exhibits clinical signs of infection for insurance reimbursement denies the patient the right to nonmaleficence. McCormick…
The antimicrobial properties of plants have been investigated by a number of researcher worldwide, especially in Latin America. It was proven that from 122 known plant tested, a vast number of plant shown antimicrobial properties to some bacteria such as Staphylococus aureus and Escherichia coli(2). It is estimated that today, plant materials are present in, or have provided the models for 50% Western drugs (Robbers 1996). Many commercially proven drugs used in modern medicine were…

Sir, it is nice to know that dental decay in children's teeth is decreasing in the UK as reported recently in the BDJ’s news pages (BDJ 2004, 197:64) In developing countries, (more often in the rural areas) there is higher prevalence of dental and periodontal disease due to negligence and lack of awareness and the cost of oral health care has increased in these countries. Essential oil (EO) mouthwashes are important in oral health management1. They contain thymol, eucalyptus oil and menthol and the tepenes present have antibacterial and antifungal activity2,3. They have broad antimicrobial effects, are microbiologically safe 3,4 and have the ability to penetrate the plaque biofilm killing the microorganisms5. The curry leaf tree (Murraya Koenigii spreng – a green leafy vegetable) is grown all over India and other countries for its aromatic leaves which are used daily as an ingredient in Indian cuisine. The fresh curry leaves contain 2.6% volatile essential oils (containing sesquiterpenes and monoterpenes)6 and the essential oils in the curry leaves are sufficiently soluble in water. They contain 21000µg total carotene, 7100µg beta carotene, 93.9µg total folic acid, 0.21mg riboflavin, 0.93mg iron, 830mg calcium, 57mg phosphorus and 0.20mg zinc per 100g7. The cold extract of curry leaves (10g of cut fresh curry leaves in 200ml of distilled water) has a pH of 6.3 to 6.4. (unpublished personal observations). Chlorophyll has been proposed as an anticariogenic agent and it also helps to reduce halitosis8. We have observed that holding curry leaves in the mouth for 5 to 7 minutes is helpful in reducing halitosis9 and that the terpenes have been found to reduce airborne…

The development of antibacterial agents derived from micro-organisms and chemotherapeutic agents from plants is a research area of the utmost importance. The present study was designed to evaluate the antimicrobial activity of banana (Musa sapientum Linn.) Blossom extract against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli). The appropriate extraction process with an outstanding antibacterial activity of the extract was the alcoholic extraction with 80% ethyl alcohol for 48 hours. The antimicrobial activities of the extract were evaluated using paper disc diffusion methods and assay plates. β-sistosterol, 12- hydroxystrearic acid, palmitic acid and d-malic acid and tannic acid, the bioactive…
Like other legumes, D. eliptica can be nodulated by specific group of bacteria subsequently providing nitrogen for the plants and reducing the need for costly artificial fertilizer (Ponsilp and Boonkerd, 2007). Recent studies reported this plant as nitrogen-fixing symbionts legumes however the properties of D. eliptica specifically its leaves were known. Hence this study aims to examine the antimicrobial activity of D. eliptica leaves in hot water extract and ethanol extract.…

Abstract— Azadirachtaindica fruit pulp and leaf extract were used to test antimicrobial activity against disease causing bacteria Staphylococcuaureus. Extracts of varying concentrations of Azadirachtaindica fruit pulp and leaf extract were prepared using Phosphate Buffer and tested against test organisms using agar diffusion method. Oxfloxacinof same varying concentrations were used to compare the effect of antimicrobial activity of fruit pulp and leaf extract.…
