The first accomplishment she made was to be the first ever Hispanic citizen to be surgeon general of the U.S. She also was the first women to become surgeon general of the U.S. She was nominated this honor by president George Bush. Some of her most important initiatives are plans to enlarge AIDS prevention, to end the promotion for minors to smoke, and to deliver healthier care for kids, females, and minorities. Antonia was also a big sponsor toward the Organ Transplant Procurement Act of 1984, she also helped in creating caution tags to put on cigarette packaging. She was the first Surgeon General to bring up domestic violence as a community health problem into nationwide attention. Antonia has acknowledged many honors, including the U.S. Public Health Service Achievement Award and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Medal. I believe that she deserved each and every one of those awards.
