Women are twice as likely to develop anxiety as men and children can also develop this condition. Women are twice as likely due to many factors like a difference in hormones from men, postpartum depression, menopause, and the reporting of illnesses. Many of these factors lead up to depression or anxiety because of the amygdala’s response to an overproduction of hormones produced by the endocrine system. These hormones include estrogen, progesterone, adrenaline, low levels of serotonin, and high levels of the stress hormone, cortisol. Unfortunately, women are more likely to report their symptoms and discuss their issues with a doctor than men. This results in more developments in women’s mental health than men’s mental health.
Post traumatic stress disorder and anxiety are conditions that are often times lightly brushed over despite the detrimental effects in may have on someone. It is important to be tolerant of the nervous system, as it is a particularly sensitive system. Going under mass amounts of stress can lead to disorders like PTSD and generalized anxiety disorder. One must keep in mind to take care of not only the physical state of themselves, but also their mental state. Without a stable mind, it is harder for one to carry out normal activities that are evident through normal everyday
