In the Essay My Pedagogic Creed the author John Dewey lets us know that learning begins at birth and from one person being born in the world, society is getting educated from that. He says that true education is the result of a child's experiences and what his environment demand of him.With education one can emerge from their original narrowness and find that they belong to a particular group. In Summerhill, the whole school was based on this idea of freedom. Attending classes was optional, students had a say in what the school did and teachers were not allowed to yell at students. Sounds good right?

My Educational experience has consisted of learning my name, where I am from, the names of my parents and where they are from. I started school when I was 3 learning how to play and share with others. Ever since then school has been the primary source of my education but there are things school didn’t teach me. Things I had to learn on my own, I learned that women bleed for a week each month and don’t die. I agree with the statement “ true education is the result of the child's experiences and what his environment demands of him.” I say this because growing up as a child I hated wearing shoes, they were the absolute worst. They got in the way when I played and always got dirty. Because of my hatred for shoes I choose not to wear them and as a result I just learned how to tie my shoes two years ago. The reason I bring this up is because my environment didn’t demand me to wear shoes so I never learned how to tie them but when my environment demanded me to wear them I was forced to learn how to tie them. Some aspects of my educational experience has been like those described in summerhill. For example although going to class isn’t optional I do get a say in what I want my electives to be. I am interested in studying law so my electives consist of law related classes and I can get a say in what the school does by becoming a member of student council.
