The purpose of this paper is to present a case study completed in an effort to determine the best form of treatment for a young adult suffering from anxiety. Discussion will include information obtained via a literature review accomplished to help determine what intervention tools are the most effective to decrease anxiety symptoms in young adults. Details regarding assessment and tools utilized as well as a description of methods and the results of the process are presented. Moreover, the research will help to prove the importance of treatment taking into account the compelling statement by Kasteenpohja et al. (2016) which identifies that “anxiety disorders have been shown to have a negative impact on the individuals who suffer from them (p.2). In addition, a twelve year study of physician based psychiatric visits for youth ages two to twelve years old presented findings that showed an increase in the diagnosis of anxiety disorders from 45 in year one to 58% in year twelve (Rajakannan, Safer and Burcu, 2016, p. 289). The discussion will intentionally leave out any identifying information to protect the client (Reamer, 2013, p. 167).

Anxiety is affects many individuals, according to Gray and Zide (2013) “anxiety disorders are the most common and frequently occurring mental disorders” (p. 255). According to Gray, McCullagh and Petros (2016) lifetime prevalence rates have been noted to be as high as 25-30% (p. 186). The literature that I reviewed indicated the following treatment methods for anxiety disorders; Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), Self-Administered Strategies and Pharmacological

Willow is and ectomorph and her activity levels are moderate. She does not have a driver’s license and lives too far from the facilities to help her achieve her physical health. The closest gym is a 30-minute drive and since she is currently a stay at home mom, it is difficult for her to have her child sit quietly on a bus. She does take the time to go out jogging twice a week in the early mornings for 30 minutes before her child wakes up. She also attends a local yoga studio that is just a 15-minute walk from her place, for 60 minutes, which focuses on flexibility, and likes to meet up with friends to go. She would like to start working out with weights and start focusing on her health to have another baby.…

Discussed is some of the research that has been conducted on the role of the amygdala in anxiety, as well as the role of GABA and benzodiazepines in anxiety. Research has indicated through amygdala lesions and stimulation that the amygdala does indeed play a major role in the expression of anxiety. Research has also indicated, through drug infusions to the amygdala, that benzodiazepines cause anxiolysis (by increasing GABA transmission), and that benzodiazepine antagonists increase anxiety (by decreasing GABA transmission). Also discussed are some limitations and problems found with benzodiazepine use.…

Dr. Archibald Hart tackles the difficult subject of anxiety. Not only does he go into deep discussions about anxiety, but also he also covers the seemingly never ending causes and cures for many of the varying problems and issues that arise from anxiety. Like many of the authors previously discussed in this section, Dr. Hart does not believe that medication is the answer to solving these life problems. Even though medications do help and aid in the process, a lifestyle change is critical and necessary in order to overcome anxiety and the many other difficulties directly associated with anxiety.…

People have been using herbs to help anxiety symptoms for eons in time even back in the old prehistoric caveman days. And you know what? These herbs in the right combinations can cut anxiety symptoms by half. I have been using a variety of herb combinations to help anxiety symptoms and this is my all time favorite combination. Mug Wort Valerian Chamomile St. Johns Wort Skull Cap Making a tea with these herbs is easy, just take a pinch of each and place in a small piece of coffee filter or clean piece of muslin and tie shut with a string. Next, steep the herb packet in 8 ounces of hot water for five minutes. For longer relief, Herbal sleep capsules work great for calming down anxiety symptoms. They usually last for 6 - 8 hours which is a good long time, and my most favorite is a proprietary herbal formula called Twilight Moon which I found on Ebay. You might be asking if these capsules will make you sleepy. Sleep formulas are supposed to make a person sleep, but not if you are dealing with moderate anxiety symptoms. Anxiety generally super charges the whole body mostly a certain part of the brain that produces a fear response, the amygala. And herbal sleep capsules are designed to calm down the body and the mind in a relatively relaxed person to sleep. But in the case where anxiety is gripping you, the herbs relax you…

Anxiety disorder is the most common psychological disorder in the Canada. According to Stats Canada (2015) “in 2013, an estimated 3 million Canadians (11.6%) aged 18 years or older reported that they had a mood and/or anxiety disorder.” Unfortunately, researchers don’t know what causes people to experience different anxiety disorders but they are able to indicate the different factors involved as chma (20111) says “anxiety disorders seem to be a result of a combination of biological, psychological, and other individual factors.” The unpleasant feeling of fear, anxious, and worried is what makes anxiety such a difficult disorder to overcome which is why there is so much awareness concerning the disorder.…
