Aphorism
Everyone has laws that they live by, these are called “laws of Life”. Many people use aphorisms or quotes to shape the way they live, usually they are by famous or successful people. An aphorism good to follow is, “the mind is everything, what you think you become” by Chinese philosopher Buddha. This aphorism teaches people, whatever they think of themselves, they would eventually become. Another lesson this aphorism will teach is that if you want to yourself to have a positive life with positive outcomes you must have positive self-image the same if you have a negative self-image. The 3rd lesson this aphorism will teach you is the way you think of the outcome of something, good or bad, reflects on the outcome of the situation will be towards …show more content…
A lot of times it really doesn’t get as bad as you expected, but the situation still goes bad. It is because you kept thinking about how the situation could go bad. Whether you are in a meeting or in a fight, the situation can get way worse. If you think negatively the situation will go bad. Say you are going to get on a roller coaster and you are scared of falling off. If that is all you think about and you don’t feel you will regret it because you were worried and you didn’t have fun. Taking a risk is what can make things fun. Why do you think people go skydiving? You know why because they did not worry. I am not saying don’t worry, but just do not think about the negative aspects of a situation.
The way you think of yourself is what you are; that is a modernized version of, “the mind is everything you are what you think”. Have a positive self-image and you will live a positive life. Just think of those people who starve themselves because they are “fat” they think they are fat but they really are skinny and have a very poor self-image. Your self-image is everything that makes you who you are. If you imagine yourself as fat you will think you are until you are too skinny but if you think of yourself as yourself as rich and successful you will strive to be

“If you don’t speak up, people will take advantage of you”(Simon 43). This quote is the best definition of what life really is. In life if you do not speak for yourself, people will push you around and take advantage of you. If you want something done right in this world, you have to do it yourself. Depending on others is what others want, but that dependency will take over your life and it will become something that is not yours anymore.…

King once said that “by bringing our fears to the forefront of consciousness, we may find them to be more imaginary than real” and that “more often than not, fear involves the misuse of the imagination.” This couldn’t be further from the truth. We are human, and experiencing fear is a natural event; this is why courage requires fear, because we cannot escape the feeling. This means you are not alone with your fear, and knowing this can help soothe your fear. Knowing this will help you maintain a positive mindset, and this will help you excel in any situation. Remember, a lot of what you perceive is in your head, and not all of it is true. Having a positive attitude and mindset in a situation will help prevent you from getting dragged down by fear. Dr. King defied the odds, and he did it with a having a positive…

“I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. It’s when you know you’re licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what. You rarely win, but sometimes you do.” (Lee 149).…

    1. Self-Concept is one of the three barriers that influence my thinking. Self-Concept is the way a person views themselves. It can be unhealthy if a person see’s themselves in a negative light. Such as not being very intelligent, not thinking you are attractive, or even maybe that you simply don’t matter. This is a struggle for me because when you watch television you see what the ideal woman is supposed to look like. Which causes me to feel like I am not very pretty, or that certain qualities about me should be changed. I sometimes do not feel very smart either and this can become a problem. It can make a person depressed and unable to shed light on other things and to think clear. Some ways I could overcome this is by looking into getting some anti-depressants, but those will not work alone. I could write a list of things that are good about myself, and pay myself compliments every day. Another thing I do is look up pictures of these beautiful women minus the photo shop, and expensive airbrush make up they use. I also like to think I am beautiful because I have a man that thinks the world of me.…

There are a few different factors that come together and affect a person’s concept of themselves. A person’s own thoughts and interpretations are an important part of what makes that up. Different influences like the culture that we are part of can also shape how we are and how we see ourselves, as well as influences brought on my our close family members and friends. Naturally we also look to those around us to see how we compare in contrast to how they are, and develop out self-concept from that.…

One piece of advice that a friend once gave me is “Don’t borrow trouble.” Keeping this in mind helps me to focus on the present and not worry about “what if.” I think we have to constantly remind ourselves that the “what ifs” are out of our control so worrying about what might go wrong is a waste of our time. When you think about what could go wrong if, you are not present in the now. You are worrying about something that may not even happen and losing precious time in the meantime.…

We are never promised the honor to live the next day; we are never guaranteed tomorrow. You can not live regretting your decisions. You must live in the moment or the moment is wasted. The one you love more than words could describe could be gone tomorrow; the reason they are gone could get locked up. Lose focus and look away, what you turned to see can be the last thing you saw before you life flashes before your eyes. Your next breath you take in could be your last. We all realize these things at our own pace; we all have experiences that open our eyes to reality; mine were all crammed into one dramatic week. “Everything happens for a reason, but I think it's important to seek out that reason - that's how we learn” as said…

In the book Jane Eyre it says, “Life appears to me too short to be spent in nursing animosity or registering wrongs”(Brontë,67). This quote means to me that life is short, you need to live each day at a time. Do make mistakes and then learn from them. Do try something new because you might never get another chance. Do whatever you want, don't stop doing things because people judge you. Wear the clothes you want, dye your hair wild colours. Do what makes you happy and if it makes other people unhappy, so be it. You can't make all the people in the world like you. So be yourself, make mistakes and try new things. Cause at the end of the day all that matters is what you want for yourself and nobody…

All I can say of what I learned from this is that I tend to see the negative first. It took me far too long to realize that was not the best way to view the world. If I look for the negative first, that is all that I will find. I wish I could say that I follow my own advice, but I don’t. Sometimes it just seems easier to keep to myself. But, I guess that’s how I learned to live with my life.…
