In this passage from “A Long Walk to Water” by Linda Sue Park, the tone of the author was dramatic. One example of the author using the tone dramatic is on line 2 of the passage. “The sun was relentless and eternal” This is dramatic because the author could have said the sun was hot but they made it so perfectly explained that it is so miserable to be outside. Saying relentless is meaning the sun is consistently burning and the heat is very very strong. Using the word eternal is meaning all day the sun is shining at its brightest.…
In the novel Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech, don't judge someone until you've walked two moons in their moccasins is the main theme. What does that mean? Don't judge a book by their cover. It can also mean don't judge someone until you know them.…
In The Rock and the River, by Kekla Magoon, “all it takes for evil to exist is for good people to do nothing” is a prominent theme. An example of this is when Bucky had just been brutally beat and arrested by the police. The police did this in broad daylight in front of everyone including Maxie and Sam. “People on the street began going about their business again. The radio blasted, covering the silence of disbelief, of resignation.” (pg. 68). This quote demonstrates the theme because it shows that if the people watching the violence happen (aka the “good people”) do nothing, then the cop’s racism (aka the evil) would continue existing.…

Edwin Morgan’s poem ‘trio’ is about a moment where Morgan saw a man and two girls walking in Glasgow, down Buchanan Street in the cold at Christmas time. “Icarus” by Edward Field is about a young man named Icarus Hicks who experiences anguish while living in the human world, but attempts to fly again. The original Greek myth of Icarus states that Daedalus, father of Icarus, made wings out of feathers and wax to escape from the Labyrinth (a complex maze he built). After constructing the wings, Daedalus warned Icarus not to fly too close to the sun; however, Icarus disregarded his warning and flew close to the sun, melting the wax. Icarus plummeted into the water where he drowned to death. The poem, “Icarus” exhibits how Icarus did not actually drown but swam to a city where he began to live a human life. References to the myth include, “compelled by the sun” (line 14) and “thought himself a hero” (26). Icarus is depicted as remorseful of his actions and wishes he had drowned instead.…

In The Embers and the Stars by Kohák the intersection of time and eternity is expressed. Kohák has focused on "natural" time, which is to say that time is not just what is expressed by a clock, or with a series of numbers on a clock. "It is, rather, set within the matrix of nature's rhythm which establishes personal yet non-arbitrary reference points." This means that time is not measured in seconds, minutes, or hours but by personal existence and experience. These "reference points" are experiences in your life that are meaningful and you help spatially distinguish points in time. Time as we know it is explained by Kohák as a "construct imposed upon nature's rhythm, subordination and ordering it". He does say that it is a useful construct, but as for the theory of relativity time does not hold up.…

Environment: The constantly changing landscape of the internet is the environment in which Yahoo! exists. Increasing and intensifying competition from companies like Google have seen Yahoo! overtaken in terms of its leadership in key internet markets like internet searching using search engines. The fact that company has spread itself (and hence its resources) over a plethora of internet opportunities has resulted in the company becoming fragmented and uncompetitive against other niche-focussed companies which compete in the various distinct markets of the internet. The company seems to be following a strategy of adopting technological advancements and social trends rather than being an innovator and a driving force behind these factors. They are constantly playing catch-up in these spheres.…
