Financial Aid Appeal Letter
Henry Ford Community College
5101 Evergreen Rd.
Dearborn, MI 48126

Dear Office of Financial Aid, My name is Ali Shaheed and I am writing to appeal my suspension from financial aid. I hope that you will reconsider your decision and grant my financial aid. I would like to begin thanking you in advance for taking the time to read this letter and consider my request to reinstate my financial aid at Henry Ford Community College. I take full responsibility for my unsatisfactory completion rate, but I would like to explain the circumstances. I started my first semester at HFCC in winter 2012, and I failed to attend my classes due to my mother being sick, and I had to rush her to the hospital every other day. I had to take care of her because I’m the only one she had. In a result I failed to make satisfactory academic progress due to me not attending classes.
This summer of 2013 I went to Baker College of Allen Park to continue my education because they approved me for financial grants, and because I could not afford to pay my classes at HFCC. Now I’m a full time student at Baker and I have completed one class so far and I got an A in it, and I got 3 more classes that I’m currently attending right now, I will attach my classes schedule and registration with this letter to verify and see that I’m serious about this and I want to move forward to continue my education and be successful and never look back, and my I will also send in my official transcript from Baker when I finish the semester in December 16th 2013. I’m looking forward now to go back to HFCC for the winter semester because they got better learning environment and better teachers and it’s the college that I want to finish my education at. I am really serious about my future and I recognize that a degree is essential in attaining a great career. Again, thank you for taking the time to read this letter, and I assure you, if granted financial aid, my education and will

I am an international student, so a main finance for my education is from my parents (they have their business in hometown). My parents paid for my whole tuition is around $ 5,550.00 per semester. When I received the scholarship from GPC (before merging to GSU) $ 3,027. 00 per semester because I have good grades (GPA over 3.5), my parents only paid around $ 2,500 per semester and plus $300 per month for reting a room. However, after merging into GSU, I do not have the scholarship any more. My parents have to pay again whole tuition $ 5,550.00 per semester and plus $ 300 rent fee per month. It is a big amount to my parents. Now, my parents' business is not good as before because the economic in Viet Nam is slow down. Furthermore, due to I am an international student, I am only allowed to worked on campus with maximum 20 hours per week. I could not work outside because it is illegal and I need to focus on studying full time at school. With the salary from part time job at school, it is fixed for my daily expenses and textbooks. That is a main reason I am writing this letter to apply this scholarship. I am sure with this scholarship can help me and my parents so much.…

I am here to discuss how hard of a situation is has been for me to get back into school. I have been out of school for 10 years and never thought it would be this difficult. We hear every day the sayings and advertisements of “go back to school” or “continue your education, it’s as easy as 1-2-3”. Well, I’m here to say that I have had one heck of a time. From not having my parents push me in the right direction when I was younger to branching off and not finding out these things until later. I certainly don’t want to say it is too late to go back to school but I do feel to be a late bloomer. Anyhow, when I first got into Austin, I had to go back and forth to the campus 4-5 times without having any accurate information from a counselor. I mean, I’m a hands on person.…

Today I received a message in my student email about my academic progress. I was denied Financial Aid due to my poor academic performance my 2015-2016 semester at Mesa Community College. The reason for not meeting academic requirements the previous semester was because of my lack of organization with working, sports, and studying. I take full responsibility in not putting my academics before sports and work leading me to write this letter. I truly believed I could juggle working 20 hours a week as a swim instructor and also be a student-athlete for Mesa Community College while maintaining strong grades. I soon found myself struggling in classes and doing poorly on exams because I was not using my time correctly and pushing my school work to the side. In high school I worked as a swim instructor and ran cross country as I am now, I put little effort into studying and did what I had to do to get by. Those poor habits followed me into college and are now backfiring with proof through my GPA.…

Ever since high school, I have struggled with school. After graduating high school, I graduated with a 1.7 GPA. I always knew I was an average student, so I accepted my GPA proudly. However after entering college, everything changed. I knew everything was going to be more difficult and demanding. Beyond all the hardships of academics, I was also going to have to pay for all of education by myself, because my parents could not afford it. This adversity made it extremely difficult for me to decide if I wanted to continue my education and enter college. However, despite my finical struggle I decide to continue my education and apply for college. I applied to Rockland Community College, where I wanted to work on increasing my GPA.…

    Appeal Process

October 26, 2014 Appeal Process Paper When any defendant is found guilty, of any charge, is entitled to an appeal to at least one level of appellate court (Meyer, J Grant, D. 2003). An appeal is when a defendant has already been found guilty in court, and they decide to take it to a higher court in order to change the ruling (Meyer, J Grant, D. 2003). Basically it is a process that takes place, because the defendant and their attorney do not feel that the verdict given was accurate and that could be due to many different reasons. Appeals ensure that there was a fair trial given and no rights were violated (Meyer, J Grant, D. 2003). The appeal process begins very shortly after the trial, when the defense sends an appeal to the court. Appeals factor in to the overall criminal justice process, because in the end they can change laws or amendments. The Miranda rights are a great example of this. They came about after someone went back and challenged the court. It was then that the Miranda rights became part of the law and the criminal justice process. Just because a criminal goes to court and is decided guilty and is charged with whatever he/she was being charged with, does not mean that the process is over and he/she accepts the sentence and it is done. The defendant may decide something went wrong or he/she has a way of proving their innocence. Then they will submit an appeal and may ended up getting out of the original sentence given. This completely changes up the criminal procedures and processes. Based on my review of the appeal courts results in New Jersey, I think that the current appeals process is very effective. As per New Jersey Judiciary annual Report 2011- 2012 (n.d.), 6,461 appeals were received and 6,159 of those appeals have been decided. (Appellate Division of Superior Court). Mostly everyone appeal submitted to the New Jersey Appellate Courts has been resolved, therefore showing that the defendants are given a chance to have their case heard once…

I, Kourtney Brooks, am writing to you in hopes that the decision of me being ineligible for financial aid due to not maintaining a cumulative GPA of 2.0 can be appealed due to extenuating circumstances. Entering into the spring semester, due to my performance in the Fall I knew there was a lot of work to be done. In the Fall, after being out of college for a few years I had to get acclimated to working and going to school full time, not to mention online schooling, which is something I hadn’t experienced before, but due to having to work to take care of myself I made the decision to try it because I know in order to truly excel in life I have to further my education. Nonetheless, I went into the spring semester a stronger student due to the mistakes in the semester that instilled the strength and…

    Appeals Process

What is an appeal? An appeal is a “proceeding in which a case is brought before a higher court for a review of a lower court’s judgment” (pg. 465). This basically means a process which takes place because the defendant and their attorney feel that the verdict that was given was inaccurate which was due to something that may have happened during trial or the arrest. Appeals are done to make sure that the person has had a fair trial and none of their rights were violated. An appellate court as the text states can help an area decided on how to address certain issues. This is good because the appellate court judges can make a decision without having to worry about what society will think and if they will get reelected. An appellate court goes through cases and tries to understand what has taken place during the arrest and see if the law was upheld. An appeals process starts right after the trial, the defense must submit an appeal to the court. The person appealing should file all documents with the appellate court. The will then file briefs and the court will later hear each sides argument and decide/ once the decision is made the courts will announce their findings and why. An appellate court is based on the law not on any facts so a defense attorney cannot argue the facts presented during the case or that you were found guilty and you believe you are innocent. Your appeal should consist of the fairness for example if you had the right to a speedy trial or a defense attorney etc.…
