According to definition in Oxford dictionary reality is a quality of being real; real existence; that which underlies appearance. And appearance is something that is showed or can be seen. The word appearance comes from the word appear. And one of the meanings of the word “appear” is “seem”. When we say: “it seems to me” we mean that we don’t know for sure. Shakespeare tries to reveal the reality, which underlies appearance.
If appearance is something that can be seen, everybody can see it differently. Every one of us has eyes, but no one knows, whether the picture that he sees is the same as that picture which is seen by everybody. Also we don’t know whether the appearance that we see is the same as reality. That’s why many people are careful. Before saying something they ask views of everybody. For example, if some person hasn’t fit our expectations we become frustrated. Next time before making judgments about some person, we will first ask our friends’ opinions. I try to explain how the reality is determined by the opinion of majority. By the way this problem is the main disadvantage of democracy. Shakespeare lived when the state system was monarchy, but wrote about problems, which make democracy imperfect system. That’s why we read his plays with great interest.
So the first problem is that the appearance is
