She was very mature for her age and her actions reminded me of myself as a little girl. Her sassy and confident attitude made me laugh at times. I also enjoyed how Holden didn’t realize the real problem in his life, was himself. As he was judging others for the qualities he found irritating he wasn’t able to see himself displaying those qualities himself, whom I believed caused many problems throughout the story. 2.…

She seems to be a passive and warm-hearted woman, a typical “ideal” woman character in literature, caring Philbert as he is bullied. The article points it out that in the original novel that Bonnie is a tough and licentious drug dealer that is very different from the movie’s -- caring, passive, almost a saint-like--, that she is a realistic woman figure. Also, the role of the children is passive and powerless figures in the movie, from which they are opposite in the book. In the movie, the children and women rely completely on protagonists to help them, which the author of article also notices. This is also typical of westernized movie, sacrificing the novel’s integrity and individuality for greater…

I have also learned that she likes to suck up to people to get what she wants even though she isn’t all that successful. The Wizard of Oz, written by L. Frank Baum and produced by Mervyn LeRoy is an example of how art reflects life because of the characters, scenery and props chosen. In the 1890’s and early 1900’s a new political party emerged, the populist party. Most populists (farmers and laborers) mistrusted the president and most of the presidential candidates, they thought of them as “wind bags”. Mark Twain would refer to this as the “Gilded Age” because those in power considered it a time of prosperity, but it really was only for people that were rich. They thought everything was great and green, but they weren't seeing all of it.…

Over the story she has showed a uncaring, even colder side towards things. For example she says this to montag about young Clareiss dieing ,”I think she’s gone....,” “gone for good I think she is dead,” She says it in such a nonchalant casual tone like she is talking about some random mundane topic. She seems numb to emotions like sadness or any form of emotion deemed “negative” by society. Captain Beatty talks about how society has changed, took all the “unhappy” out of the world. Mildred seems to be a perfect example of the twisted society portrayed in the…

Realism is both reliant on and thoroughly undermined by the uncanny. Realism was prominent during the 19th and 20th centuries. According to the Oxford Dictionary of Literary Terms realism is a ‘general attitude’ of literature that ‘rejects idealization, escapism and other extravagant qualities of romance.’ It must be noted that realism is not simply a realistic “slice of life” but a ‘system of conventions producing a lifelike illusion.’ The uncanny is a ‘kind of disturbing strangeness evoked’ in literature. Freud’s 1919 essay The Uncanny, or Das Unheimlich, discusses the subject in detail, stating that the uncanny is a subject which ‘arouses dread and horror.’…
