Application Essay: My Experience With Hilbert College
As a freshman attending Hilbert College, I consider myself a dedicated learner who will step up to any challenge given to me. I enjoy a good laugh, but I am also a good listener. My hobbies include travelling and golf, but my true love is dance. I have been dancing for fifteen years and it has always been my release when school or over scheduling become too stressful.
My college plans are to complete the Accounting 4+1 with Hilbert College and St. Bonaventure University so I can sit for the CPA Exam after 5 years. This plan would give me a B.S. Accounting/ MBA and CPA. I chose this field because I felt it was a good fit with analytical skills and affinity for math. My dream career position would be as a Chief Financial Officer for a non-profit

And because all things have contributed to your advancement, you should include all things in your gratitude". I agree with Emerson, I too appreciate all the experiences in my life, the people I have met, and the things that I have accomplished. I am most grateful for family and friends. My parents have given me unconditional love and support my whole life, I am able to confide in them, and turn to them for advice. They have taught me honesty, generosity, open-mindedness, lifelong learning, how to balance work and life, perseverance, dedication, compassion, community involvement, organization, strategic planning, a love of nature, responsibility and of course, great dance moves. Each lesson came when it was most needed and I continue to learn from them every day. My parents are my greatest source of laughter and joy, there's never a dull moment in our house, I treasure their gift of humor. My friends are all very different, but together we share love and laughter, tough times and heartaches, we have been through so much together, and I cherish every …show more content…
An extraordinary example would be my 1st grade teacher, she had a lasting impact on my life. While teaching that year, she was undergoing treatment for Ovarian cancer. She wore wigs so the class wouldn't notice her thinning hair, but every day she taught, the lesson was perseverance. We still keep in touch, she recently shared with me that her experience with cancer has taught her to live each day to the fullest. She is certainly doing that, her motto is "7 continents, 50 states" as she loves to travel. A few years later, when I was 8, a neighbor started the non-profit organization, ViVA for Life. It was a fundraising event for Roswell Park's Breast Cancer Resource Center. Watching the creation of this wonderful organization, and still so inspired by the lessons of my first grade teacher, I created my own business, ViVA La Bracelets. It started out very much like a 'lemonade-stand' type of business, I would sell handmade bracelets at neighborhood block parties and local stores. Bracelet sales evolved over time to include benefits and an annual ViVA for Life gala, held on the last Friday of September, to ring in Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The events were incredible, fun, and it was heartwarming to see so many people supporting this cause. ViVA For Life took a break in 2010, but I did not. I continued making and selling bracelets, and donated the proceeds to other organizations. Over the

I can't dance. Most of the time, I shy away from dancing. But surprisingly, I have a picture of students giving a dance performance at Grinnell. A simple picture with enthusiastic dancers that I received during a college talk captures what I want out of college: a place where I can let go of my inhibitions and find fulfillment in anything that strikes my fancy, somewhere I can immerse myself in the multitude of opportunities and activities available and experience the magic captured by that picture.…

Although undeniably rewarding, the road to graduation was, to say the least, strenuous. When I began the pursuit of an undergraduate degree, I was determined on becoming an accountant. An event I've experienced that was life changing was when I obtained the rank of Eagle Scout from the Boy Scouts of America. It was an affirmation of years of disciplined work and study to have such a prestigious honor bestowed upon me. In scouting, I developed various moral and ethical tenants that have shaped my foundation in life. Tenants like integrity, honor, reverence, faith in God, a man's role and his responsibility to his family, and a nearly innumerable quantity of experiences growing under the leadership of the Boy Scouts of America have molded me into who I am today in my very core of being. The realization of my dream to become an Eagle Scout took 11 years to obtain, so I'm no stranger to adversity or perseverance. To my memory,…

In high school, I joined Zonta Club to be involved with school and community. Zonta Club gave me an opportunity to reach out to people that had helped others and inspired other students to do the same. One of the unforgettable moments was when I volunteered in a fundraiser to help Alzheimer's disease. It was an event, called Rock-a-Thon, where kids and adults were together to raise awareness those who had the disease. Everyone was participating in the activities that were available in the event. There were games that both kids and elders could play with. They showed stories about the importance of being aware and helping those with Alzheimer’s disease. The event had shaped my views on giving back to the community. Service was not only about giving back, but it is also about learning from others. The joy that the people had even when there was a sickness in their life was incredible. It made me realize how I was fortunate to be living a life without the disease. The fundraiser had made me learn about the people in my town and the obstacles that had to endure and were still enduring. The event had impact the involvement and the appreciation I have over the…

The first item I find attractive at Wellesley College is the center of work and service, a place full of opportunities and possibilities. I like putting effort on community service and have volunteered in local charity for three years. Every summer vacations, I go to the old people's home and play the guitar for them. When I saw their enjoyments during my performance, I could taste the sweetness of helping others. Their smiles inspired my devotion in the community, which I hope to keep doing in my college. If I could be admitted, I would like to participate in the Wellesley Habitat for Humanity and the Chinatown Afterschool Program because of my manipulative skills and my advantage on multi languages. Additionally, I believe the work experience…

This organization helps cancer patients find needed bone marrow donors. Finding donors are very difficult and finding matches are even more unlikely. This event made me realize how fortunate I was. I began volunteering more regularly with the same organization as well as places such as Food-share and a retirement home with residents who have memory loss. SAM and the retirement home mattered the most to me because I have close relatives who have schizophrenia and have died from cancer. Volunteering with these organizations made me realize how fortunate I was and inspired me to keep striving. This gave me a new perspective on life and I became more optimistic and outgoing. In addition to volunteering, I found a job, I began weightlifting, and I became much more social. In changing the way I think, I learned that life continues and that I still have time to improve myself.…
