My college plans are to complete the Accounting 4+1 with Hilbert College and St. Bonaventure University so I can sit for the CPA Exam after 5 years. This plan would give me a B.S. My parents have given me unconditional love and support my whole life, I am able to confide in them, and turn to them for advice. They have taught me honesty, generosity, open-mindedness, lifelong learning, how to balance work and life, perseverance, dedication, compassion, community involvement, organization, strategic planning, a love of nature, responsibility and of course, great dance moves. An extraordinary example would be my 1st grade teacher, she had a lasting impact on my life. While teaching that year, she was undergoing treatment for Ovarian cancer. She wore wigs so the class wouldn't notice her thinning hair, but every day she taught, the lesson was perseverance. We still keep in touch, she recently shared with me that her experience with cancer has taught her to live each day to the fullest. She is certainly doing that, her motto is "7 continents, 50 states" as she loves to travel. A few years later, when I was 8, a neighbor started the non-profit organization, ViVA for Life. It was a fundraising event for Roswell Park's Breast Cancer Resource Center. Watching the creation of this wonderful organization, and still so inspired by the lessons of my first grade teacher, I created my own business, ViVA La Bracelets. It started out very much like a 'lemonade-stand' type of business, I would sell handmade bracelets at neighborhood block parties and local stores. Bracelet sales evolved over time to include benefits and an annual ViVA for Life gala, held on the last Friday of September, to ring in Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The events were incredible, fun, and it was heartwarming to see so many people supporting this cause. ViVA For Life took a break in 2010, but I did not.
