I. Introduction
Seminars are the platform to meet the people with same interest and learn a lot at one clip with most material compressed in short. And, we as petroleum engineers, seminars will help us a lot to gain more knowledge and understand those lectures which are left unanswered in our minds.
Our speaker Engr. Dan Emmanuel Montealegre from DOE, tackled more about the reservoir rather than structural geology because it is not his forte to discuss geology. According to him, a geologist must be the one to discuss it because it is their area of specialization. Engr. Montealegre discussed the overview in reservoir characterization with background in geology.
II. Knowledge / Learning Acquired
As Petroleum Engineers we are more concerned with the production of hydrocarbon, which can be either crude oil or natural gas. We are involved in nearly all stages of oil and gas field evaluation, development and production. Knowing and memorizing the concepts is not enough, one should be able to apply it especially when you are working in the field. Knowing also some of the concepts in geology will help us to identify geologic structures that could help us to locate possible reservoirs. We must be able to evaluate potential oil and gas reservoirs.
Geologists focus more on the description and location of the hydrocarbon reservoir rock. They find hydrocarbons by analyzing subsurface structures with geological and geophysical methods. While a petroleum engineer focuses on estimation of the recoverable volume of this resource using a
