Although the amazing construction and innovative ideas that contributed to the popularity of aqueducts and their usage in ancient Rome are truly applaudable, there could also be changes made to the structures that could make them more efficient, safe, clean, and overall effective for transporting clean water. For example, the water that aqueducts carried, although it was some of the cleanest water at the time, was actually mildly contaminated by the lead that rubbed off of some pipes. Additionally, small critters, dust, and natural residues were found by the pipes, stones, and through the areas that the pipes went through. If this could be changed by replacing the various kinds of pipes that they used with sterilized copper galvanized steel, PVC, or plastic PEX pipes, the water would be cleaner and healthier. Also, because it was so long ago, the materials that were available for construction were not as widespread and strong as today’s. I believe that instead of using nonuniformly cut stone bricks, it would be safer and stronger to use metal structures that could withstand great forces. Not only would this save labor and pain from hard-working slaves, but it would also be a better material
