Arab-Israeli Conflict
The Arab-Israeli conflict has spawned over sixty years. For over sixty years, two sides have argued about their right to land through violent protests. Over time, there had been many talks of peace yet nothing ever came to fruition. Although the Arab-Israeli conflict has lasted over sixty years, the bad blood between the Arabs and the Israelites date back far earlier than that. It almost seems as if the conflict between the two sides was inevitable. In this paper I will discuss the battles between the Arabs and the Israelites, the origins of the Arab-Israeli conflict, and ways to remedy the current conflict.
In the Old Testament of the Bible, the Jews were God’s chosen people. However, the Jews were enslaved by the Egyptians in the 1300s BCE (Exodus). At the time, the Bible had prophesized that a man would lead the Jews out of enslavement and into the Promised Land. This man was Moses. After many years, Moses was able to finally free the Jews from the Egyptians. The new home that the Jews were given was considered, to the Jews, a gift from God. However, the Jews were soon driven out of their Promised Land by the Romans and would not return for centuries. This is why the Israelis believe they are claimants to Israel. The only problem with this claim is that the Arab countries also believe they have the right to Israel. The Arab Nations in the Middle Ages had gained major control over North Africa, Southern Europe, and the Middle East (Butler). The Arab Nations had come to think of the Middle East and Palestine as home. However, in the 16th century the Ottoman Empire took control over most of the Arab Nations’ land. The Arab Nations were not happy with the way things were under the Ottoman Empire but they could not find a chance to fight.
