Archetypes In The Giver
Reading Reflection
Jonas Berahovich

The greatest work I did in Reading this year was learning about archetypes, because I worked hard to get them. During book clubs, Arun taught us about the eight standard archetypes of reading. In book clubs, we were told to discuss the archetypes of the books we were reading, along with discussing about the book itself.

From this project I learned about how important archetypes are. I always was eager to get to the archetypes in our books, because of how fascinating they were. I put constructive criticism in our conversations, and added unique ideas for character archetypes. I looked hard to find characters which could fit roles that our book club found fairly hard to fill.

I’ll always remember archetypes

In this debate, there were 4 roles to be in. Undecided colonists were the majority of the class, who had to decide whether to side with the patriots or the loyalist. The French delegation were 3 students who were either going to support the patriots in fighting the war, or stay out. The patriots were people who were for having a war and leaving the British. I was a loyalist. Loyalists wanted to stick with Britain. We had to debate whether to stay with Britain and pay the taxes, or separate from the king and become a new, separate country. When ¾ of the undecided colonists are on either the patriot or the loyalist side after the debate, that settles who won.

This debate shows my best effort in History because I wrote an entire essay for my role. There were supposed to be 3 loyalists, however one of the students were absent that day, so we had less people on our back. I tried my best to keep track of everything and be reasonable when we were told to openly debate. I tried to stick to the reasons I had and my essay, even when it became apparent the undecided colonists were against

My science project was to see how plants grow differently using different liquids. First, I gathered 6 plants from a local nursery. Then, I got a pitcher of distilled water, salt water, lemonade, colored water and sugar water. I would use tap water and these liquids to water my plants with. I recorded the centimeters of the plant’s height every 3 to 4 days. At the end, I transferred the data to a line graph. I printed out all the writing for the project I had been doing and stuck it to a trifold. I then put my beautiful project up for everyone to see during Open House, along with the 5 livings plants and a dead plant that had been fed salt water.

I’m proud of this project because it took a lot of effort and care to set up the project. Watering and accurately measuring the plants was tough work, and, even if I was super careful, there was often spills. At the end, it took a lot of patience to get the line graph exactly right, and I had to start over multiple times. Printing the writing I had done, cutting it, putting construction paper under it and taping it to the trifold took around 2 hours, and was very

    2. Five variables that should be controlled during the experiment is the amount of sunlight, room temperature, amount of water, the time of day the plant is watered and the certain type of plant. To make sure the plants get the same amount of sunlight, make sure to put them both in the same spot so that one plant doesn’t get more sunlight than the other. To make sure they both stay in the same room temperature, put them both in the same room. With the amount of water come up with a measurement, and then make sure you give both plants that amount. Pick out a time of day for the plants to get watered make sure you water one earlier than the other since it is part of your hypothesis that they grow faster when watered in the morning. Finally, make sure that…

Aside from their differences, the Loyalists and the Patriots shared many similarities with one another. Both the Loyalists and the Patriots were culturally identical due to the fact that the majority of the colonists shared the same language, heritage, customs and religion. Both factions were descendants from similar socio-economic groups that came from Europe with aspirations to wield freedoms that were not previously allotted to them. During the war, African Americans who were slaves joined both groups because of the promise of freedom in exchange of military service. In addition, both the Loyalists and the Patriots were grateful for the land that they owned and enjoyed the same colonial rights. Furthermore, both groups believed that the decisions made by King George III and…

In 1763, the French and Indian War ended by the final defeat of the French and their Native American allies in America. When the Americans thought the British were leaving, they did the exact opposite. The British brought in more soldiers and these same American colonists found themselves locked with the British more violent than ever. Britain sent more troops to receive money for their war depts. This was shocking news for the America’s English colonists because there was still the policy of salutary neglect existing. Due to this violent control, Americans felt unfair and as if they had no choice to follow what the British say. To stand up as one voice towards Britain, the American colonists justified in waging war and breaking away from Britain. Therefore, the American colonists were reasonable in doing this.…

After reading about the Loyalist by Loyalists themselves I figured it was an inequitable battle between the Loyalist and the American people. The Loyalist had to fight against the Patriots on American territory. Also, the Loyalist had limited help because the British army wasn't always around to help out. The Loyalist was tortured and killed, they were hung, tarred, feathered, whipped, and etc. The Patriots didn't care if you are a politician or a regular person the price for betraying your country were endless. It's gotten so debauched that people had to live on the street because the Patriots burn their house and had their land taken away. If the Loyalist didn't have to go through so much torment a lot more people would have joined the…
