Archie was born and raised in Angus, Ontario, a small community in Essa township located outside of Barrie, Ontario. He grew up in a generation where school was not a priority to parents, or even teachers. Sadly because of this, Archie graduated high school with hardly any ability to read or write. His teacher told him he would work in a factory for the rest of his life and had no chance of having a career. Archie took his teachers advice and began working at the Molson Canadian Brewery. This is where Archie got involved with the union.

He replied in saying, “Training and educating people who were in the same situation as I was before the union. I think knowing that I helped people gain a better life in work and outside the workplace is the greatest accomplishment in my career.”
Doug O’Halloran is the current president of UFCW Local 401 in Brooks, Alberta. He watched as Archie grew with the union through the years. Doug quoted “Archie would never stop working for the people, he was a dog with a bone.” Doug statement was true, Archie has helped many workers across Canada through the union. He helped 2,500 workers of Lakeside Packers in Alberta through an organized strike. That is just a small fraction of people he has helped through his career at UFCW Canada.
Shane Dawson is Archie’s best friend and they met through the union. They had worked along side each other in several negotiations. Shane has witnessed first hand the passion Archie has for helping people. Shane Dawson said, “Archie loved the labour movement and was asked to come out of retirement three times, which he gladly did.
