The engaging, alluring scent of the wildflowers on a farm matches that of fabric softener, expensive lotions, and fresh pinecones, but about 100 yards from this pleasing scent exists a rather smelly one that comes from the hog houses filled with the feces of a thousand pigs. When the noun smell becomes the adjective smelly, it changes the meaning-- changes it from an engaging alluring scent to a repulsive, vile one. This bad smell resembles the scents of Farty Fred, Pig-Pen, and David Smith.…

William sighed happily at the solitude he greatly enjoyed in the mindscape. He quietly hummed to himself. Ever since his brother was busy tormenting some new puppet of his named Dipper Pines, (or as he called him, Pinetree) it has been quiet. The silence never tore into him. In fact, talking tore into the young demon more than the silence. His thoughts were interrupted by black void surrounding him. He looks around, startled. He had no idea what was going on and this had never happened before. He saw a flash of pale yellow light, almost white and felt himself being pulled towards it. He heard voices the more he was pulled.…

As you begin your own adventures and explorations, I felt that it would be necessary for you to understand the path of heroism and the theory developed by the 1950 author, Joseph Campbell in his book, The Hero with a Thousand Faces. Someday, later in your life, you will look back and be able to follow your own exploits, comparably to those similar guidelines that every hero must confront as observed by Campbell. I once lived an American Dream in Midwest America through the vision of a perfect stranger who went on to become my soul friend. He used to live in a tiny town called Perham in Minnesota. The town had a population of only 1,000 people at that time (this was in 1990). He was a typical American jock. He used to love everything his country could offer a rowdy all American white boy: blonde women, fast food, fast cars, American football, beer, and the chance to pick up fights at college fraternity parties. He was full of American capitalism. His name was James Scott Morris. I fondly called him, Jimmy boy.…

The Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 (ADEA) was passed by Congress to make it unlawful for an employer to base employment decisions or discriminate based on a worker’s age. It was designed to address to eliminate ageism based on stereotypes about the weakened skills of older individuals by forcing employers to judge older workers on their merits, not age-based myths, prejudices or stereotypes. The ADEA covers workers age 40 and older. The ADEA was amended by Older Workers’ Benefit Protection Act (OWBPA) in 1990 and 1998 to give workers increased protection. Due to the aging workforce, age discrimination would become more prevalent. Workplace age stereotypes are beliefs and expectations about workers based on their age (Hamilton…

Born in the 1950’s the world was recovering from World War II. Being the youngest out of 5 brothers and sisters meant he was the baby. Technology was just getting started. Television came out in the 1950’s, but being born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico electricity was still rare there. But my dad was privileged to live in the biggest house in the city, at the time. “We used candles until I was 8.” My dad smiles as he remembers the times when he would sit the table with his siblings exchanging scary stories. “They would say if you would go out into the woods at night by yourself you would see this devil-like creature that had one horse foot, and a big hat. But since I was the most daring, I went out one night, five blocks away from home, to try to find it but my mother came out and found me and dragged me by my ear all the way home.” “I was raised in a Catholic oriented home, that meant I had to put god first before anything else. And if I was bad I would get a punishment.”…

I eventually broke through the jungle onto a beach to find myself among other kids and kiddies some of which I recognized. We made our way towards the source of the booming noise, a boy who was well built like a boxer or wrestler. The boy carried himself in a stately fashion. Perhaps, the object he was carrying, which was the source of the noise, made him seem adult-like. All of a sudden a blob of black appeared at a great distance moving towards us, and slowly, the blob formed into a brood of choirboys. The leader, named Jack, commanded his group to stand still until one of the boys became knackered and collapsed. It was here where Jack allowed them the clemency to sit on their bums. Following this, we voted on who should be our leader, like Winston Churchill. Most of the other boys and I voted for Ralph, while all the choirboys voted for Jack. Ralph ended up getting voted as our…
