It seems that during every decade music changes in its own way, and starting in the 2000s music began to change and take form into many different styles and genres. The 2000s contained so many massive improvements and changes to the music industry, like the release of the Ipod, and the popularization of social media and online sites like youtube and limewire, and the introduction of streaming services like Pandora, Spotify, Rdio, and so many more.

During the early 2000s many british bands emerged with a lot of indie rock bands like Bloc Party, and Franz Ferdinand. It drew inspiration from 90s post punk bands and started the post punk revival movement in the US and overseas. One of the most popular bands that represented this british punk rock was the band Arctic Monkeys, which owed much of their success to social media, internet social networking and youtube. Arctic Monkeys quickly came out as one of the most popular british punk rock bands of the 2000s and continue to be one of my favorite bands of all time.
With technological advances in this era it became extremely easy to create high quality music with nothing more than a passion and a single laptop. This provided the means of bands becoming very popular just using sites like facebook and youtube and without a record label, these bands are typically called indie or independent, meaning they are not tied to a label.
