Robots are fascinating. Everyone agrees to say that artificial intelligence and robotics are one of man’s greatest achievements in science during the last century. However, as their abilities increase this creation of man might make him useless. That is indeed a burning question that we are going to analyze : are robots going to take our place at work ? This might seem almost ridiculous because even nowadays robots look very limited, but they are making huge progresses and can already do many things much better than man. So what if we should be threatened by this possibility ?
We will first see that the robots expansion has already begun and that it concerns an increasing number …show more content…
More and more of them are currently used for utilitarian tasks, for they provide the same capacities as humans for lower costs. For instance, many people own a cleaning robot which moves on his own and aspires dust on his way. So why would people still have a cleaning lady they need to pay every week whereas they could have a robot that requires no money after they have bought it ?
The same logic applies for many other things nowadays, for which robots of all kind and various use seem to be a good alternative to human beings.
This raises issues about the necessity of employing human beings for some jobs, and we will now see that sadly everyone should be worried. In other words, robots could in a near future be present in the majority of fields of competence where people are still working nowadays.

But these thing have changed, research in artificial intelligence has improved and so did the robots skills. Ironically, our progress and scientific knowledges will eventually cause our obsolescence. Robots become more performant and achieve things we had sworn they wouldn’t ever do. No one is impressed by a robot playing a piano partition, as it is nothing more to him than technical execution of a program. But a robot that creates music, who would have foreseen this ? And yet it is done : robots also invest the field of art which is no longer a characteristic of human beings ! Such qualities as emotion and imagination can apparently be simulated even if it remains for the robot a giant algorithm and a database of musical phrases combined to form a melody. And indeed, tests proved that listeners couldn’t tell the difference between that and a melody composed by a human.
An other striking example is the self driven cars, already in place in several highways in the United States. It might soon also be the case in towns although the situation is way more complicated to treat because of people crossing the streets anywhere, traffic lights and a lot of other information. As for any other field invaded by robots, it is full of advantages
