Are Kids Getting Really Stupid?
Are Kids Getting Really Stupid? - Response Essay Unfortunately, I think kids are getting really stupid. With technology, kids can easily pull up answers to their chemistry work and transfer the work from the screen to their paper without any learning. Why would they do that? Here are the answers. Would you rather do homework or hang out with your friends? We all know the answer to that question. Homework is like a chore, nobody wants to do it, but you have to do it. Why spend an hour doing your homework when you can do it in less than 5 minutes by searching up the answers on the internet? Google, yahoo answers, and wiki answers are a lazy kid’s best friend. Another reason why kids are getting more stupid is because of the way we are taught. A student’s attention span is very small. Sitting through a power point and doing packets everyday does not make a kid want to learn. In fact, it makes us dread going to that class every day. We like doing activities and doing things in groups to keep us engaged. In a nutshell, kids are getting really stupid. An American child is six times more likely to know who won American Idol than the name of the Speaker of the House. Technology was supposed to set us free, to do great things and to think great thoughts; instead, kids are abusing technology to do even more mundane, time-consuming tasks. Kids can easily pull up answers to their homework and not learn anything thanks to technology. Kids are not learning anything by doing this.

As technology advances, there is a noticeable shift among the youth as they veer away from past methods of learning into more developed, destructive manners. New York artist Roz Chast agrees with this claim. In his cartoon “Shelved”, he illustrates the ignorance of a man who would rather focus on his computer than read from one of the shelves upon shelves of books surrounding him (Source H). Essentially,…

Students have a lot of pressure when it comes to homework and how much they count toward our grades. So when it comes to needing help the internet has helped us because its hard to do it on our own.In the article "Education 2.0: Never memorizing again" the text says "It is enough that they know about the Battle of Hastings, without having to memorize that it was in 1066. They can look that up and position it in history with a click on Google,” he said." Not every student can memorize everything as if it was programmed into our mind as a teacher taught it to us. With the internet the little things we forget it gives us many sources and information that become useful to us. Some may argue that technology is dangerous and causes issues. In which in the article" Attached to technology and paying a price" it says" The resulting distractions can have deadly consequences, as when cellphone-wielding drivers and train engineers cause wrecks. " In which has been and is still a huge problem ,But instead of taking away technology in which can help us but instead just teach teenagers the benefits of technology and to not use it unwisely. Taking away technology for a week would just make people want to use it more in which means when the week is over we would constantly use it in which could cause more wrecks and more…

As of the 21st century, technological use has become so readily available to people that it's inevitable. It is a part of society's trends, and has been implemented throughout schools across the nation. For example, schools have adopted the use of calculators, even though there was a upheaval about calculators in the early 1870s, as depicted in the article, "Legalized Cheating" The Wall Street Journal (2006): Print by Ellen Gamerman. Calculators were a very controversial device in the classroom due the fact that it can spit out an answer, leading to the notion that students would be inadequate because they wouldn't be able to think for themselves. Also, when teachers issue a project, for the most part, we have moved away from the tri-folds, poster boards, or foldables. Now, we are using the newer technology like prezi or glogster, to…

The first solution is parents must partially abstain children from technology by limiting children’s screen time according to American Academy of Pediatrics. The reason is that children don’t need technology to learn just as how current icon don’t need technology to bring them to where they are now. Furthermore, even Steve Jobs, the co-founder of Apple does not fancy his children playing technology. In fact, when iPad first came out, he banned his children from using them. He has an orthodox functional family that have their dinner table talk. He leads by example to all the tech-savvy and ordinary people out there. The pros of this solution is that we can see the fruition of this solution as children without technology are still becoming the future leader. The con is that technology is evolving and it is unsure whether there is life without technology in the future. The solution will work for the time being before technology controls every aspect of our life.…

What is the point of homework? They’re just death tests from hell to see how long you can keep on. It has absolute no use to us at all; we will not be able to remember it in a few years time, are we? Do we get in trouble if we don't do it? When I mean trouble, I mean serious trouble, like the mental and physical abuse the Americans use on those prisoners to make their lives a living death. If we don't get it, why would you do it? It’s not going to kill you. Does it count towards your grade? If it is not going to count towards your grades, then why bother causing a chaos in your life by doing it? Only those people who have no social life at all scramble themselves into all sorts of misery by doing them. For a point of truth, which genius in the world actually concentrated on their homework? For example, Bill Gates and Steve Jobs, they saw their…

In this technological age we are advancing at now, illiteracy becomes a bigger problem because of all the applications that can fix our mistakes. Applications such as auto correct and even Google have made us way too dependent on technology. When someone asks me a question I don't know, oh I’ll just look it up on Google, and that's not okay. They are usually helpful, like a crutch, but now we’re using them like a necessity. It has been a difficult transition from going from book learning to technological advances, we are trying to use it to make us better, but it is coming a bigger and bigger problem. And kids are using applications as if they're toys, and not as helpful learning tools, and now we are so reliable on their help, that if we had to live without technology, we couldn't do it because of how dependent we are, however students with severe learning disabilities can be highly dependent on these applications. That begs the question, how much technology dependency is too much (High-Tech…
