I think that Odysseus was justified in his actions towards the suitors. Think about it, if you were in his situation, you would be pretty upset too. Also, keep in mind that the punishments in that “time” are very different compared to now. And this is greek mythology. Therefore none of it is even real. The suitors tried
to take away everything that Odysseus has worked so hard to build up. He had a right to do what he did. Everyone deserved to be punished.
Going along with what he did to them, it could be questionable if anyone that was punished didn’t deserve it. Odysseus went and punished anyone who tried to take his wife, his home, or kill his son. He also decided to punish anyone who was even involved or knew about the plans to take over his things. I think that everyone who got killed deserved it. For what they did, I think it was reasonable. Those things were rightfully his and no one had an excuse to try and take that away. The punishment was a little severe though.
The punishment Odysseus issued to the suitors was a bit extreme. He just killed them. All of them. I don’t really think he had a choice though. Keep in mind, they were trying to kill his son. He couldn’t just let them go. Who knows what could’ve happened if he did. They could have come back and killed Odysseus or his family. Like I said earlier, he did what he had to.
In conclusion, Odysseus did the right thing here. The suitors tried to kill his son. They also tried to take his wife and home. Therefore, I feel that he was justified in his actions. I also don’t think he should have gone easy on them. It was basically his only option. Justice was definitely served.
