are parents to stick on their kids?
Greetings to all. As you might be familiar already, I am Lord Capulet. Today I am here to share with you about the loss of my beloved daughter, Juliet. As a father myself, I will be sharing the many mistakes I have made while raising Juliet, hoping you will be able to learn from my past experiences and not make the same mistakes I have already made.

One of the biggest mistakes I made as a father is not giving Juliet the freedom she deserved. As parents, we want the best for our children as we want to ensure their safety. However, we tend to forget that they're growing up and we take away their choices and rights as we think we know what's best for them. An example of this would be when I threatened Juliet with eviction and portended to disown her if she didn't marry Paris that I would kick her out and disown her if she didn’t get married to Paris. This was a very unreasonable and harsh decision I made, as I will regret this for the rest of my life as it will lead her to rebel and do things behind my back. If I had just given her the freedom she deserved, things may not have ended up the way it has.

Lord Capulet: the very wealthy patriarch of the Capulet family, he is the character who is as rightfully dominant and says the final word; he is the man of the house, stronger than his wife and Juliet. What the alpha male of the house said was certain and not arguable; any argument against his word would suffer drastic consequence, as we later discover in Juliet’s revolt and rebellion to marrying Paris. In Act One, Scene 2, Capulet and Paris are discussing whether Juliet can be married; Lord Capulet is uncertain and persuasive in allowing his daughter to cherish her childhood before getting married too young. Furthermore, Capulet says: ‘My child is yet a stranger in the world’. From the moment I read it, the word that catches my attention is ‘stranger’. This suggests that she hasn’t experienced much in her life. In addition, Capulet says: ‘And too soon marred are those so early made’. The word ‘marred’ means…

The historical hatred between the Capulets and the Montagues immediately compromised the relationship between Romeo and Juliet. They both knew that their parents would forbid their love for each other. Romeo and Juliet recognized that their partnership would never be blessed, yet this parental control could not stop the loving bond between these two young adults. (Act II Scene I) A second example is the arrangement of marriage between Juliet and Paris.Juliet protested that she did not love Paris and would never marry him. Juliet threatens her parents that if they force her to marry Paris, she will end her life for her heart belongs to Romeo. (Act III Scene V) Similar to the parents in this play, today's parents try to control the lives of their children, but children need to find their own path through life. Parents could possibly create permanent and catastrophic consequences similar to the needless deaths of Romeo and…

Shakespeare gives the audience a look inside the family dynamic of Capulet. In fact, it can be seen as the direct cause of Juliet’s untimely death. When a person becomes a parent, their ultimate goal in life is to protect and provide for their child. Juliet had the ideal childhood environment; her parents sheltered her from the negative of the world and provided her with the best in life. Yet sometimes parents’ best intentions are not suitable for their child. Juliet’s view of marriage at the beginning was naïve, “It is an [honor] that I dream not of” (1.3.71). The thought of marriage…
