Being a sports fan actually have affected me in various ways. It help me to be able to finally have something in common with my brothers instead of being the sister who doesn’t know what’s going on and why everyone’s mood is so anxious. That will help me to be able to scream and shout and get all crazy with the guys to. But it also cab have its drawbacks, for example I like the Dallas Cowboys so their record for 2016-2017 was actually great this year and you would’ve assumed that they might when the championship and make it far in playoffs but they didn’t they got beaten by a team with a not so great record as them, So that made me highly upset and starting to think about different ways to draw assumptions for the super bowl teams or football in general.…
Athletic teams strive off marketing and really rely on the fans, or in other words, customers. They call us fans, but to them we are just another customer who will pay outrageous prices for a shirt or a beer at the ball park. Do athletic teams really care about fans, or do they just really want our money? We pay so much money for parking, the tickets to get in, and then for food at the venue. It is almost like they take advantage of us and just use our money. Athletic teams try so hard with the marketing mix to get our business, because they have so many more teams to compete with. Athletic teams are in some way a huge business and do require a lot of money to operate. It makes one realize where this “customer metaphor” can really take…
With March Madness dominating the headlines and airwaves, it’s difficult not to admire the passion and effort of these nineteen year old athletes. However, while the marketing of, and revenue from, the tournament continues to grow for the television networks, the NCAA, the participating universities and their coaches, the NCAA athletes participating in it are expressly prohibited from collecting any financial compensation at all whatsoever. There is the argument that NCAA student-athletes should not be paid because of an opportunity provided to pursue a free higher education not given to the general public; but the assertion has several flaws, not the least of which is the extensive time and energy demanded…
Sports can unite a whole university together by giving all students a common interest as well as a sense of belonging to their school. An article from Chronicle of Higher Educated stated, “Sports teams can foster a deep sense of community and social solidarity, even when those teams lose more often than they win” (Clotfelter, 2010, p. 155).…

People tend to root for and want to like a team who is favored to win. For example, The Chicago Bulls in the 1990’s had a huge following because they were favored to win the championship so often. I have been on the winning side and beat a team in lacrosse twenty six to zero in the championship game of a tournament. Looking over at the opposing team's sideline, I was…
The Topic I decided to debate was should college athletes be paid a salary? The side that I decided to pick was the pro side. To begin, every year new college athletes are drafted, they are excited to play a college sport and represent their school.”Journalist Michael Wilbon has written that seeing the $11 billion deal between the NCAA and CBS/Turner Sports for March Madness between 2011 and 2024 prompted him to change his mind about paying student-athletes. First of all, this deal shows the amount of money the NCAA is bringing in over the course of one month alone. March Madness is one of the most watched sporting events in history. Not to mention the money being made off this event is not trickling down to the players, who are the stars of the tournament.”…

John Wooden (NCAAB Hall of Fame coach) said, “Sports do not build character. They reveal it.” High school sports are usually beneficial to all parties involved, such as the athletes, parents and the schools that have the athletic programs. The athletes that play high school sports learn countless lessons on life, how to be healthy with exercise, and the extra incentive to keep up the grade to play these sports. Parents of high school athlete’s get an opportunity to watch their child succeed at something he or she loves. Parents can also benefit financially, when their child is good enough at a sport to get offered a scholarship which may pay for all of college. For a high school that has athletic programs the biggest pro is the amount of money to be made from things such as admissions, concessions stand sells, t-shirts…
When a player plays for a team their families, friends and people who don’t even know them come to watch them. This brings a lot of money to college’s pockets. How?... people buy tickets to watch the games and when they come to the games, they buy foods drinks etc. they also buy university’s apparel, and this brings in the most money. There are even video games made by EA Sports, where people pay over $50 to buy. This doesn’t just bring in money but also puts colleges name out there and more students want to go to that…
College athletes do not have time to get a part time job with their busy schedules. They spend an average of 43.3 hours a week on their sport alone. Most full time jobs are based on a 40 hour work week. This is just the sport but now let's add the school hours "If a student has 10 hours of class each week and puts in the recommended four hours of study for each hour of class, then athletes spend 50 hours each week studying and attending mandatory classes and study halls." (Listland) that adds up to 90 hours of school and sports a week, the equivalent to having two full time jobs and a side job. But still they aren't making a dime, Even though the NCAA March Madness tournament is an 11 billion dollar industry.…

There are obvious benefits to being an athlete, specifically those related to one 's health. Everybody should exercise at least three times a week in order to establish a healthy way of life. When one is part of a team, they are able to develop certain social skills that can benefit them throughout life. Also, participating in a sport can increase one 's level of self-esteem. "In selected patients with major depression, aerobic training can produce a substantial improvement in symptoms in a short time," (Dimeo et. al., 5) However, as important as all that is, the majority of the population at Basten College will probably not be varsity athletes. The majority will be spectators and fans. There are three main benefits to being a spectator. The first is the effects on academics. According to Karla Henderson watching sports or athletic events increases endorphin release in the brain, resulting in a higher aptitude and concentration level. So students have the ability to focus longer and retain more information while studying or attending class. The second reason deals with female 's personal identity. According to Linda Marsa, "Participation in sports pays big dividends physically, psychologically, and emotionally. Extensive research shows that girls who are involved…
