GMO’s or No-No’s?
Genetically modified organisms (or GMO’s for short) have coasted their way into every single part and place of America’s current food sources. GMO’s are genetically modified or created organisms to, according to some scientists, end world hunger. They are very easy to grow in certain environments and fuel big business while proving the abilities to feed the masses with an extremely low cost. But what are the long term costs? GMO’s are proven to be very detrimental to health, damaging to organics, ruining the seed trade, all while being currently protected by federal law. Most of the time (since business tends to have millions of dollars on their side), these farmers end up with an ultimatum resulting from said lawsuits; shut down your farm, or lose your farm. Federal law is run by big businesses, this is finally becoming common knowledge in America. Organics leaders have strived to make it law that all products containing GMO’s be labeled clearly for all consumers. Ironically, the head of the FDA is in close ties with Monsanto (or the leading producer of GMO seeds - they created the “round-up ready” soybean) and has denied labeling on each occasion. He has also refused to be interviewed, as well as Monsanto. Why would the government approve of slow running poisons to be placed in our foods as they please? They are out to maintain a cloak between what is in our food, so that consumers will indeed consume. As Marie Robin says in her 2008 documentary “The World According To Monsanto: “They used to spray the herbicide, you know, in South Vietnam. Monsanto knew that it was very dangerous, very toxic, because it contains dioxin.
