The more I am able to determine my own thoughts – in fact create my own thoughts and thereby create my own experience of reality – the more it is possible for me to become self-determined and to be truly free in living out my own identity. It is quite easy in modern Western civilization to believe that I am free. I have so many choices – the choice of where to live, what to read, what to watch on television or what to engage with on the internet. This kind of freedom however requires a keen awareness of appetite. Without awareness and discernment I would only be a slave of these appetites and not in possession of the power to shape my own ideas and actions.
